Jon's Story
Life
After Escambia, I went to U. of F., graduating in Political Science and Russian Language -- not a specialty that makes it easy finding jobs! I tried graduate school for 1 year, but I didn't like it much -- I became restless. I moved to Atlanta, got married, worked as a butcher for a couple of years, and then my first wife and I bought land in SE Minnesota, where we built a small house with only hand tools -- no electricity, no running water. I lived that way for 7 years, but 3 years into it we got divorced. There's no doubt that I needed a "trainer" marriage!
After I arrived in Minnesota, I worked in a rubber boot factory in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, which eventually (24 years later) led me to become a freelance consultant/rubber chemist/footwear designer, flying between the U.S., As...Expand for more
ia, and Europe for various customers. I've been working out of my home since 2001, and my work situation is pretty sweet, so I can't imagine retiring -- probably work until I drop.
Anne (my permanent wife) and I clicked immediately when we met in '82, and we married in 1985. She was an apple farmer then, but now works for our county government. Sometimes we get a chance to travel abroad together, especially when I'm going somewhere interesting for my work.
Our son, Ian, and daughter, Camille, have both finished university and both hold jobs, and are doing fine. Neither has a criminal record, and neither one inappropriately got pregnant/got anybody else pregnant. Hooray! My main parental goals have been achieved!
End of story, for now.
