Jon's Story

I hope that you, who are reading this, are healthy, safe and secure. We look forward, to 2023 with hope. New Mexico, overall has had pretty good coverage in getting New Mexicans vaccinated. Our family is 100% vaccinated. We had no fruit whatsoever this past summer (2022) 2022 has been an especially bad year with a number of Connie's family passing this year. Oldest brother, the his wife. A sister, one week after the brother; sister's son earlier in the year. A brother-in-law at end of 2021. And a niece before them all. We are in the process of improving our backyard landscaping, starting by building a gazebo. After completion then we'll move on to the remainder of the yard. Working on getting certain weeds eradicated, bind-weed (morning glory) for one. Nasty and tough. We hope to travel to SoCal sometime in June. Nothing set in stone yet. Gotta get some health issues resolved first. Best regards to all my NTHS classmates. May God Bless you and keep you safe, well and protected from COVID. Jon 50th Reunion Comments (Oct. 15, 2016): What a GREAT event. Had lots of fun, greeting and talking with our friends from the past; maybe making old friends new again. . And everybody looked really good. And truly, all the Ladies of our class are still "crush-worthy". I provided my home e-mail address and cell phone # to Kathleen (Vess) Valvo for anyone who had pics to share. Love to hear from you, anyone and everyone. Would also like to hear from some who were at the reunion but are not on CLASSMATES and did not add their contact info for the Reunion Book. (Charles Hammond is one of those; where are you Charles?) Best Regards, God Bless always to any reading this.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~LIFE: I married my high-school sweetheart, Connie, in October of 1967.. Fifty-five years October '22 just like our HS Reunion I say, "WOW, where dd the years go?!". We have one son, two grandchildren, ages 23 and 18 and one daughter, age 17. "Retired" life is not what we expected or planned for. But God chose to give us a daughter in our 50's and she keeps us active. Raising a teenage girl is a lot different that having raised a son, "several years ago" We keep busy with work in our yard, a never-ending chore keeping an acre clean from all sort of weeds. We do try. Connie and I have begun to feel our age as we each have had our share of health related issues. But in spite of those we get up every day and keep moving; a little slower but still ":forward" . Tending to an acre of land is no picnic.I hated the task of weeding our backyard on 179th Street in Torrance as a teen.and now that "hate" is intensified as we have much more "intense" weeds. Goat-heads (puncture vine) and tumble weeds, Chinese Elm and Locust trees.. We slowly mak...Expand for more
e inroads to improving our back year (a gazebo, built in 2021; more concrete, decorative gravel over thick tarp (to kill the weeds) WORK: After high school, worked at Foods Co. Markets for about 1-1/2 years, then move UP to McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft, until a layoff in 1970. Late 1970 went to work for Farmers' Insurance Company in mid-Wilshre area of Los Angeles. Stayed and survived there for 10 years+ one month. Then really moved UP to work at American Honda Motor Co. in Torrance and retired from there in July 2006, after 25 year and 10 months. I retired from American Honda as a Senior Computer Programmer-Analyst. I continue to keep in touch with several former co-workers, most of whom are now retired. I miss the friendships of many of my co-workers. A lot has changed at Honda but upon a recent visit to Honda (early July 2015) one of those mentioned that little had changed from the IT support aspect and that "if I wanted to come back" I could slip right back into the the systems support I was doing before as little in that area had changed in the past 17 years. I kindly declined. (LOL) OTHER Medical "stuff" happens as we age. Just had a pace-maker implanted in September 22. Not quite used to it yet but am improving. None of us has had COVID, Thank God. So much of ut is still around us. . We love to go to Santa Fe shopping and dining and such. And it is a nice drive. New stores coming into Santa Fe; replacing those lost to the pandemic. It is nice to be able to find classmates and keep in touch and hope to hear from any and all old friends (did I say old, let me restate that) friends from the past. I appreciate all the kind comments and remembrances from so many classmates. If I do not reciprocate, it is not that I do not remember you, because I do. But with a current personal "health issues" and trying to tend to our home and property, time is limited. Thank you, always, for remembering me and for all who post their profile on "guestbook" or notes, I thank each one of you. And I do remember, in good ways, all of my '66 class-mates and a number from earlier and later graduating classes. Faves: TV Shows: Gunsmoke old westerns, especially John movies. Actors: The Duke, Humphrey Bogart, Actresses: Bacall. Have to think hard as there were so many great actresses in the movie eras; Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers; I like (30's thru 60's). Movies: El Dorado (John Wayne), Any Bogart and William Powell movies. "Current" movies: Star Wars saga; Jurassic Park; And last but certainly not least, "Bond, James Bond" "Back to the Future" triolgy. . I wish I had the time to write a note to each of you who have visited, because I likely have a little bit to say to each of every one who visits. Thank you one and all and God Bless to each of you Jon NTHS '66
