Jon's Story

My bio: Two years liberal arts at Beloit College (WI); BS Commerce (Majors.: Accounting, Mathematics, Law, Economics) Ferris State College which included a significant internship with, then, Seidman and Seidman-Metro Detroit; MBA (Finance/Accounting) Michigan State University; C.P.A. certified in a bunch of states over the years. Married: Kathleen Mary McCarthy (GRCC '64 a beautiful six footer); 12/16/67 Daughter: Laura Elizabeth (a beautiful six footer); 11/22/68 Son: Gustav Helge II (an Adonis-like six foot three-er); 7/29/72 Work: Seidman and Seidman-BDO/Seidman (S&S and BDO) 1965 through 1990; partner-in-charge-accounting and auditing for southeast Michigan; QC review "Captain" all over the USA (so what?...don't kid yourself, QC is a tough job, along with instilling a great sense of ethics in identified up-and-comers). After getting out of my "big firm" [S & S was then the ninth or tenth largest international CPA/Consulting firm in the world and is now ranked fifth] rat race sought a private NON-accounting/finance business to test entreprenurial skills and became, part of a Southfield, Michigan firm and resumed being an active CPA in quality, ethics and areas which take special and expansive expertise. I'm retired, a consultant, "of counsel," now. Even though I once lived for the challenge of work, I always have spent plenty of time on family, hunting, designing rifles, designing "wildcat" cartridges and making them, handloading and arranging hunts, from Newfoundland to southern Mexico and scads of places in between, for myself and...Expand for more
friends, along with fishing (bait casting, spinning and the inimitable "fly"). Kathleen, BS from Michigan State in Audiology and speech therapy - nationally recognized woman, leader and winner in the nonprofit arena. Laura, B.A. from Michigan State, M.A. from Western Michigan, (39) and Tim Simmons(41) have 2 boys: Henry-14 (reached a height of 6'-1" while still 13) and Neil 12 and growing. The Simmonses live in Pennfield, MI (Battle Creek, north). Laura is THE BEST teacher in the world. Tim is the handiest guy I know, maintains apartment complexes and likes to hunt, fish and be with me. Presently, Henry and Neil are not very good buddies; Henry has a "girl friend!" Gus, studied at Oakland Community College, Western Michigan, the University of Utah's National Outdoor Leadership school, where he explored east Africa, climbed the major mountains, lived with arabs in the Seychelles and herded cattle with Masai, and Wayne State University, graduated from OCC's firefighters' school and several EMT programs, owns Gus Walgren Custom Painting,(36)and Nicole [nee"Martin"](38) have a son, Graham Gilbert Walgren, born November 21, 2007. Nicki and Gus live in Detroit in a charming old home but want to move west, like to Idaho, as both love outdoor sports in the mountains. We have lived in the same house in Birmingham, Michigan since May 1972. We chose Birmingham for its public schools which are similar to those in the EGR system. Living in Michigan in 2008 stinks; plenty. We're having economic problems in this state in case you weren't aware.
