Jonathan's Story

Life Update Apr. 18, 2009, my dear brother-in-law, Larry Smith died of cancer, he was 54 years young. Larry was a great father to my 2 nieces and nephew, Lauren, Megan and Justin. He served Port Chester as a police officer and loved his job. I love him as a brother, a solid man who gave SO much to my family. All the disney movies, Star Wars, holiday meals as a kid. All the nights out tossing back brews with David, Ralph and Skippy, the infamous gun trips in the mid to late 80s. I will miss him dearly. I went to see him last week, and he called me a rightous man. He would know because if ANYONE could write a book on being one, Larry would be it's author. Again, I feel old and that much more alone. Update, Feb. 2, 2009 my father passed away. I will miss him, but he had a good life and lived it the way he wanted. It is so strange not having any parents now. I feel old...and somewhat alone. After leaving Rye High early, I went to work with my Dad, for 14 years. All was well, until a very tragic day in 1987, when my mom passed away unexpeditly. It was really bad, and my family never fully recovered from it. 20 plus years later I still think of her every day. I was so lucky to have her in my life and am forever greatful for it. My love of animals and the people around me, all that makes me a decent person was because of my mother. I loved her so much, I really miss her and forever will. In the early 90s I bought a 1971 JEEP CJ-5. I performed a restoration on it, totally custom, with the help from 2 very close friends, one of them from ny 1984 graduating class. In 1992 I met my dear wife which changed everything for me. She turned my life around and gave me focus. I love her today as much as I did then. I am very lucky to have her at my side. But I do miss those days in the late 80's and early 90s, hanging out with Stan, Jim S, Jim K and Justin. After working for my father for so long, in 1998 it was time to move on to better things. I found a job in the IT field and been in it since. Around the same time I sold my JEEP and went to Arizona and Califonia, what a great trip. My love for animals has grown only stronger. In 1996 I lost a very close and dear friend, my cat Hawkeye. Any pet lover will tell you how great their pets are. But only one stands out just above the rest, Hawkeye was this dear friend to me. Born in 1980, he was at my side every night, with me through some great and very bad times. He was and forever will be a dear friend who to this day is still sourly missed. Recently I had 4 cats, I rescued one that got thumped by a car near my house. His name is OddBall after a character in the movie Kelly's Heros, he is really neat and loves stealing things. Right after Oddball, I lost my dear Amber in Sept. 08. I miss her very much. In 2003, we were finally able to purchase our first home in Dutchess County. I really love it up here. The people are nice, it is quiet and peaceful. Reminds me of growing up in Rye on Milton road, all those years ago. Now that I am 43, I have been reliving ve...Expand for more
ry fond memories as a kid. Playing WWII with Mike, John John, Walter, Ben and Justin, just to name a few. Hanging out with Richard Upton and going to the beach, or to the coacheman to get our Dads to buy us Pizza. I will never forget all the cub scout meetings, camping trips, etc either. When I was very young, the Vincentes moved in next store. Christine, Sandra and Isabel. Ladies I hope you some day read this. I will never ever forget all the fun we had playing together. You were all a god send for me. There were no kids, at that time, in the neighborhood and I will forever cherish the memories of the 4 of us playing all those games together. Nor will I forget becoming friends with Justin, who moved to Dallas, just to come back 2 years later. Now he lives only 10 minutes away. What would my life be like without Justin or Stan? Not very good I am sure. In high shool, hanging with Stan, Jim S, and Jim K, running in the hallways at lunch trying to avoid Mr. Cohen. Ahh the memories, high shool sucked at the time, but the memories of my friends are awesome. It was fun growing up in the 70s and 80s, it really was. I know things change, and sadly Rye is terrible now, with Forest Avenue and so many other areas loaded with big ugly houses. My father's old plant on Milton road was ripped down for 2 big UGLY houses. My old house on Milton road was DESTROYED by some spoiled yuppie morons, no doubt liberals. Milton School has changed SO MUCH, it looks HORRIBLE. Makes me SICK that my old neighborhood is now loaded with over paid spoiled brats. Unfortunatly it now seems they are moving up here in Dutchess. I am all for capitalism and the American way, but what is going on in Rye is pathetic. If I could I would go back to the times of no internet, 6 channels, PLAYING outside instead of video games, no cell phones, no car payments, credit cards, or mortgage payments, and most important no deaths in the family. No liberals like Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Clintons etc, to do all they can to ruin this country. Were is RONALD REAGAN when we NEED HIM MOST???? It would be nice to get a 2nd shot, and have the knowledge that I have now with me. Things would be different in many ways. I will always remember how home was a safe place to go where people loved you. Played from dawn to dusk, until the bell rang 4 times. Where does the time go. I remember on Graduation day in 1984, I looked around and thought, man in the year 2000 I will be 34 years old. And now I am 43, yuck. Such is life. thanks for taking the time to read this. School I finally have to admit¿.I had a big crush on Mrs. Carney. She was a great teacher and sweet lady. Best time I remember was hanging out with Stan, Jim K and Jim S lunch time. Running in the hallways at lunch time trying to escape Mr. Cohen. Would I do it all over again, in a heart beat. But this time, NO BS. Workplace Worked for my father for many years after high school, went nowhere. Been working in computers, etc since. It pays the bills.... Military None, and I somewhat regret it.
