Jon's Story
I retired last year after 11 years working for a large public-service union in Canada. I also write, do improvisational dance, cook, read, play tennis, swim, and enjoy the theatre and hiking. My career took me through a dozen occupations, among them those of English professor, newspaper reporter and editor, industrial relations researcher, and policy analyst. I have written an industrial relations textbook, now in its third edition, and have published over 200 newspaper pieces, various book reviews and essays, and a number of short stories.
It would probably be a great surprise to everybody that I am one of the more--no, most--athletic people in my class. (I was the only male to dance at my college reunion last month, and one of just two to play tennis.. At prep school ...Expand for more
reunion a few years back, some women danced with me, which was greatly appreciated). At college, aside from an occasional game of tennis, the only exercise I indulged in was the 12-ounce elbow curl at the bar!
My heroes include Benjamin Spock, Pete Seeger, Paul Robeson, and Julia Child. I cried all day on hearing the news of Mary Travers' (Peter, Paul and Mary) death. They don't make them like her any more.
I have recently left a relationship that lasted about six months. No longer feel so needy about relationships, which is all to the good. Living alone is difficult, but preferable to being with the wrong person.
I still look really good in tight jeans, and I will still take to the streets to confront warmakers, so I guess I can't complain. . .
Peace to all
Jon
