Jonathan's Story
Life
I was born in Tuba City,lived in kayenta. Grew up in California. Graduated from Tuba City High School. Joined the military, graduated from college. I have 2 great kids, my son Ryan who is now 34 years old and living in Phoenix, AZ. My daughter Janelle is now 32 years old. I got married on April 8, 2006. I now live in Queen Creek, AZ. I work as a special education teacher. I enjoy the outdoors, yard sales, museums, antiques, fishing, watching old movies.
School
I attended school in Kayenta, Az until I was 9 years old, then went on the LDS Indian Placement Program and attended school in Southern California at Mildred.Morrow elementary school, Hewes Intermediate school and my freshman and sophomore year at Foothill Highschool. I completed highschool at Tuba City Highschool and graduated in 1979. Attended Dine College and received my BS in special education, cross categorical degree from NAU.
Military
Joined the military in 1991. Went to basic at Ft. Leonardwood Missouri in 1991. Attended AIT at Lowry Airforce Base in Denver, Colorado. My MOS was Combat Artist, but there was no war to go to so I became a 55B, ammunition spe...Expand for more
cialist, and 88M10, (transportation driver). I was stationed at Bellemont, Arizona until 1993, when I went active Army. I wanted to be an M1A1 Abrams Tank Turret mechanic, (45E1). I left for AIT in June of 1993, and attended school at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. After graduating from Tank school, I then went to Airborne school at Ft. Benning, Georgia. I graduated in October of 1993 and went home for about 2 weeks leave before arriving for duty at Ft. Bragg, NC with the 82nd Airborne Division. Since Ft. Bragg does not have air droppable M1's, (too heavy), I was assigned to work on the ancient M551A1 Sheridan Tank. Designed in the 50's and was still used by the 82nd Airborne Division, because of their "light" weight, (17 tons). They could be parachuted safely for airborne assaults. So I worked on them for 3 years. I missed the invasion of Haiti in '94, (training in Ft. Polk, LI.). Returned home in 1993. I joined the 1404th Transportation Co. as a PLS driver. Stayed with 1404th until I got out in October of 2006. I am now a civilian, but feel very fortunant to have served and have made many great friends and experienced many adventures.
