Joompon's Story
Life
Hi!
It's been a long road, getting from there to here... (from Star Trek Enterprise Theme Song).
Update Oct'09: Due to circumstances, I now own the company whre I worked and another one; doing the same line of business and also trying to set up a coffee shop as well. Wish me lcuk!
I'm now in data comunications pre-sales with Telindus, a Belgium company operating in Thailand, since '94. I was in SITA ('88-'93) training and then AP Services (CUTE 2) before that and a Thai petroleum company before that.
While I did travel a lot during the SITA years, I've been more or less in Thailand since '75 when the family returned from Beirut, Lebanon (i.e. Salesian) where we spent '66-'75; those wonderful years.
Cheers, everyone. For old times' sake if nothing else.
School
Salesian:
I miss the parties at Richard's place and the school parties as well; and the crushes (if it qualifies) were Karen, Vicky, Angela, ... But then I was too young and ... Anyway, thank you Mr. Robert Miller for getting me addicted ... to Sci-Fi stories.
YES! I would do it all again if time travel's possible.
College
King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Thonburi, B.Sc. (Physics) - barely made it!
This was the closest I got to achieving my school dream of b...Expand for more
eing a marine scientist before changing for an astronaut. Yeah, it's still much too far away. But I did get to play with lasers and vacuum (systems); and got me into instrumentation, electronics, computers, and communications.
It's the closest to dream coming true.
Workplace
SITA (Societe International de Telecommunications Aerinautiques for those lay men)
This is where I got to see the world again! Mostly Asia, but parts of Europe and U.S. of A as well. The best years; yeah, well, before everything went Y2K, 21st century. The '90s were when it was still like '70s & '80s; PCs and IP/Internet have yet to make thier mark on the world, and high speed (backbone) networking was anything above 64Kbps!
Ah, the good old days!
Military
Did the voluntary 3 years military training & education during high school and colledge, so got exempted on its completion; too bad I didn't had the guts to go for 5 years. It would have been fun, but it was beyond requirement, so had no friends to do it together.
Anyway, I got discharged as a reserve in a 'cavalry' division, i.e. armored infantry I guess; which I'm pround of, even though it was just random selection. I'm almost 50 now, so it certainly don't count no more, though I do like the 'cavalry' part.
