Jose's Story

Life I've lived in Southern California (L.A. area) since leaving Guam in 1975. I try to go back to Guam every couple years and get together with a few of the '75 grads. I like the outdoors. I used to go ocean fishing and scuba diving on weekends. However I sold my boat and now spend most of my weekends at my cabin in the Sequioia National Forest. Weekend activites include freshwater fishing, off road motorcycle and ATV riding, hunting. or just relaxing from the city life. Since 2003, I've enjoyed traveling in the contiguous 48 states and a few trips south of the border to Mazatlan, Cabo, Mulege and San Felipe. I've driven up the Pacific coast line through California (beaches and redwoods forest), Oregon (Crater Lake), Washington (Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainer) and of course several micro-breweries and wineries along the way. Did the grand circle tour visiting National Parks and Monuments in Utah, Colorado and Arizona, such as Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonland, Mesa Verde, Cayon De Chelly, and the Grand Canyon. Took a trip up to Montana to see Glacier National Park and then drove down to Wyoming and visited Yellowstone and the Grand Teton Parks. Took a ride through the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee and Georgia. Saw a show at the Grand Ole Oprey and toured the Jack Daniels distillery. Visited the Mammoth Cave and corvette museum in Kentucky. Rode the airboat through the swamps in Florida and saw a Space Shuttle launch. Visited the gambling boats on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers in St. Louis, and went up on the Arch and also toured the Busch Brewery. I was in the east coast for three months enabling me to visit the historic and interesting places in Philadelphia (Liberty Bell, Congress House, Brandy...Expand for more
wine, Valley Forge, Gettysburg), New York (Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Niagara falls), Maryland (Annapolis), Washington DC, New Jersey (Atlantic City, Cape May), and the football hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Next stop Maine/Vermont or Alaska. College I attended Northrop Institute of Technology (later became a University) in August 1975 to June of 1979, obtaining a BS degree in aeronautical/aerospace engineering. The first two years of school was great because fellow GWSH '75 grads, Peter Camacho and Paul Sampson, were enrolled in the same school. Pete was my roommate in the dorms. Dorm life was great especially on Friday afternoons playing volleyball and drinking beer. After two years Pete transferred to USC and Paul went to Loyola Marymount. However we still got together once in while on weekends. After Pete and Paul left, I got to know a bunch of dorm mates from Hawaii. That continued the fun times during through the remainder of the school years. Workplace After graduating from Northrop University in June 1979, I took a job with Rockwell International (Downey, California) as an aeronautical/aerospace engineer. In July of 1979, I started work in the Space Shuttle program analyzing the vehicle aerodynamic performance. In 1999, the Boeing Company bought the Rockwell Space Division and I became a Boeing employee (Huntington Beach, California). I'm still involved with the Space Shuttle program (aerodynaics and structural analysis) but also expanded to support other advanced space vehicle projects providing leadership in development plans to perform wind tunnel tests. I see Peter Camacho, fellow Gecko/Warrior '75, once in a while. Pete works in the same Huntington Beach campus but on different advanced projects.
