Jose's Story
I was funny (but not as much as Ruben Mendez or Gabriel Ramos) I started back in 1969 with Mrs. Esquilin as the 1st Grade homeroom teacher. I remember the days when Mrs. Orta, teacher in 4th Grade would pull everybody's hair when they misbehaved but since I always had my haircut kept at less than a centimeter long (not my choice by the way), she always ended up pulling my ears instead. I enjoyed playing basketball in Elementary school, John Hodges or Edelmiro will always pick me to play in their teams. In middle school, I remember fondly our 8th grade teacher Mr. Morales (Kung Fu) who took over the duties of track and field coach for our class. Once he did that, our track and field team never lost again a Field Day while we were competing at the "Colegio Bautista de Carolina." In high School, I was a member of the advanced Math team who was lead by Mrs. Rivas, our Math Teacher. I also remembered the trip to "Yuquiyu - El Yunque" to get our Tazmanian Devil and us in sync with our Lord... I remembered the fierce battle I had with Rickyn Sanchez Jr. (RIP) for the Vice-Presidency of our class. Great friend, great competitor and outstanding human being, we all miss him. I also remembered the rides to school in John T. Hodges (hulk) to school in his VW. Classmates such as: Clara Lugo "La Pecosita" the one who gave me my first girl "kiss" which I will never FORGET!, Alma Noble (Noble Heart), Jose Luis Hernandez (My brother form another mother), Jose Gordo and Mitchell Hayes (RIP) for their Adonis looks that brought the girls to a frenzy whenever they smiled at them. ur days in Elementary, Middle and High School together at the Colegio Bautista. Last but not least, Nilsa Benitez, our Junior Year President who was not allowed to compete for the Senior Year presidency for past transgressions... and of course our Senior Year President, Astrid Yadira Martinez, always smiling and ready to party with Jorgito Rodriguez and Elizabeth (Willie Rosario's daughter) at all the activities the class was involved in. Fond memories that I will always cherish. La Ganga 1981, one of the best classes if not, the best class from that magnificent institution. I love you all forever. I am living in the USA, Cincinnati, Ohio since 2005. I moved here from Atlanta, Georgia where I lived for 7 yrs. since 1998. Prior to that I was working in Manhattan, NY (34th St & 8th Ave) as a Store Manager for Payless Shoe Store. Before that, I had spent the previous 10 yrs. of my life abroad in the European Continent, Germany to be specific as an Officer in the US Army and as a civilian contractor after my military career came to an end. I married a German who I divorced when I was living in Atlanta, Georgia. I remarried in 2005 and got a second divorce in 2015, this time from a Puerto Rican. I thought that my prayers were answered, I was WRONG! All of these happened after I graduated form the UPR-Rio Piedras campus in 1986. I have been to many countries: Germany, Chech republic, France, England, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, Denmark, Berlin before the unification with West Germany under Russian control, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Mexico, Egypt, Ireland, Scotland (technically this is not a country it belongs to England but don't tell them...) I have seen the world and there is no place like my little Island in the Caribbean "Puerto Rico"
