Joseph's Story
Life
Currently I'm living near Boston, Massachusetts where I'm animating for an NBC/Discovery Kids show, Time Warp Trio, airing Saturday mornings on NBC.
Since high school, I've lived in Pittsburgh, New York, San Bernadino, and now Boston. It took me a while, but I'm finally doing what I love, animation.
College
What college didn't I go to? After high school, I attended Wayne State University in the Fine Arts program. Not completely happy there, I decided to transfer to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and enrolled in the animation program. Practically miserable there, I decided to go back to Wayne State and finish up my BFA with a concentration in drawing. Upon graduation, I moved to New York. Not finding the job I wanted (animation), I decided to take some continuing education courses at the School of Visual Arts.
I realized that I needed to go back to school, if I wanted a job in animation. SVA was too expensive (and so was NYC), I decided to move back to Michigan and attend the College for Creative Studies, enrolling in their animation program. I got my second BFA this time in Animation and Digital Media, within three years. 2 BFA's later, I'm fina...Expand for more
lly working in animation.
Workplace
Upon graduation from High School, I started working at Star Theatres of Rochester Hills. I met some great friends there. I continued to work there through graduating from Wayne State. I moved to NYC after graduating college, and got a job at the Loews State Theater in Times Square. Not exactly what I wanted to do and not exactly enjoying it. I decided to move back to Michigan get a second BFA, and worked again at Star Theatres of Rochester Hills. I worked there (minus the year in NYC) from 93 until 2003, almost exactly 10 years.
Finished with the movie theater industry, I interned at Film Roman Animation Studios North Hollywood, California. They are the ones that produce King of the Hill, X-Men, and one of the greatest shows of all-time, The Simpsons.
Upon returning to Michigan, I started working as a Video Game Store manager at GameStop. While working there, I also did freelance animation for Calabash Animation in Chicago and Thunderbean Animation in Ann Arbor.
Very unhappy at GameStop, I finally got my big break in animation working on a new television series in Boston, Time Warp Trio, where I'm currently working.
