Joseph's Story
College
There is nothing like campus life. There are few campus lives that are like those at Franciscan. All I have to say is that life in the Bubble is a blessing and a curse. It's hard to get used to, and harder still to leave. But college has definitely become a home away from home for me.
So far, my college existence has been defined most by my acting career and my Household Brothers. In a year and a half I have been in four shows, with two coming up next semester (provided I get cast). In regards to roles, I haven't done all that bad for myself. No positions quite as high as I got in highschool, but nonetheless I was Malcolm in MacBeth, Thomas Fisher in Two Shakespearean Actors (I had a sword fight), Dave Appleton in Another Antigone, and Acaste in The Misanthrope. There is a constant struggle in me as to whether or not I want to give my life to acting or stay on my current pursuit of a degree in Catechetics. There's ...Expand for more
still time for that decision to be made.
Household life is hard to describe. I would say it's like being in a frat without the alcohol, but as it stands that's not really true. There was no real hazing about it, just a group of guys who hang out together and have a good time. When I can't have my friends back home, I have Alex "FT Stump" Hilspitch, Alex Seplowe, John Wester, and John Bunnell. Can't forget the older brothers, Carlos Supak, Rob Thew, Ivan LeCoursier, and Justin Brown. These guys helped me adjust to the new college climate, and are in many ways just like a family away from home.
So the first year was tough to adjust to. I didn't want to admit it to myself, but I just wanted to go back home for most of the time. I had a long distance relationship that never quite worked out, and as a result I was miserable a lot of the time. I stuck with it though, and my second year is proving to be the best year of my life.
