Joseph's Story
Well, it's been almost fifty years since we graduated from Corocoran and forty-eight from OCC. I went to the University of Tennessee after that and graduated in 1971. Graduated from Syracuse University College of Law in 1975. I practiced Criminal law in Syracuse for twenty-years and have been an Onondaga County Court Judge for the past nineteen.
Along the way, I served two terms on the Board of Education, much to "Mr. D's" chagrin, and ran for Mayor of Syracuse in 1993. Didn't make it. I went back to Law School in 2001 and earned a Masters in Criminal Law from University of Buffalo. I taught at Syracuse College of law for 14 years from 1994 to 2008 I published my first book, a biography about my great -uncle, entitled "James K. McGuire: Boy Mayor and Irish Nationalist" (Syracuse University Press 2014).
I've been married twice. My wife and I will celebrate our 2...Expand for more
0th anniversary next year. I have two daughters 35 and 30 and one granddaughter 3. My youngest gets married at the end of this month. and I get to perform the ceremony
I'm writing this because I made the decision to retire or "pull the plug" on my professional career at the end of 2015. Retirement gets better every day. I'm working on another book. Later this year I'll climb into my truck and see as much of the country that I can and have always wanted to. I'm also blogging on various issues that pique my interest. I came out of retirement this year to run the City's Law Department for a year. I'm having a lot of fun but look forward to going back to retirement on December 31. Looking forward to seeing everyone at our 50th.
