Joseph's Story

Life After graduation, I went to the Naval Academy, graduating in 1985 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. I then spent six months doing a little engineering and having a lot of fun at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab (within easy striking distance of Georgetown bars) before going to Pensacola for Naval Flight Officer training. Following that, I went to Va Beach for four glorious years flying in the A6 Intruder medium attack aircraft. I then spent two tough years in Monterey, California, getting my master's degree while getting paid as a Naval Officer. I met my wife, Robin, there. She mistakenly came to one of our house "Olympic Festivals" with a coworker and gave me her phone number in a fit of pity. We eloped to Alaska and were married on a mountain south of Anchorage. The Navy repaid me for my two years in Paradise by sending me to Panama to work at Southern Command, where I froze my ass off on twelve hour shifts in an underground command center. Not a fun job, but we enjoyed living there. Robin especially...Expand for more
enjoyed the fact that just about every military family there, including ours, had at least one maid. From there, I got out of the Navy, determined to put the military squarely in my rearview mirror. Somehow, I ended up first at Patuxent River, MD supporting Naval aircraft programs as a civilian engineer, then moved in 2003 to a small company supporting intelligence programs which was bought out by a little-known company named Boeing (I've been absorbed into the collective - Boeing is a great company to work for!). Robin and I have three daughters, Kylee, Maranda, and Audrey, and two dogs, an incredibly smart female husky/shepherd mix we adopted in late 2004, and a stupendously unintelligent male (is that redundant??) husky/something mix we adopted after our malamute passed away in Spring 1996. I have only been to one CHS reunion (our fifth) and had a really great time seeing everyone that showed up. Hope to make the next one - hard to believe it'll be the twenty-fifth. I never planned on living this long!
