Joseph's Story
Been a long time....nearly 28 years since I last lived in East Hampton (Goon City). Finished my Air Force Career after 26 years of service, after living in 4 different countries, and visiting 13 others. Japan twice, United Kingdom, Italy, and South Korea 3 times. Only one stateside tour in all that time, Northern California at Beale AFB. I was never shot at, even though I volunteered.
My spouse, Aisyah Mankowski, is a native of West Java, Indonesia. We have been married for 10 years now. We take care of Fatimah, my stepdaughter, even though I never use that term, she is my daughter for all intents and purposes, and I am trying to teach her everything I know (not a lot...right?) She is 18 and will be graduating this year! She is in Connecticut with my Mom up in Manchester.
The main hobby is still the music. Always exploring, always looking for new sounds. I still listen to it rather loud, fortunately, I'm not too hard of hearing! (What did you say?)
While I...Expand for more
miss Connecticut sometimes, I don't think I will live there again. My Mom is still around, my Father passed in 2002. My sister, Dayna, is married, no kids, and works as a pharmacist in Manchester, Ct.
I had to change my style. Things in Korea were going okay, but not the way I wanted to. I took the leap, and am now in Baghdad, Iraq. The photo was taken in the Al Faw Palace here on the Victory Base Complex west of the city, the flag is 3 stories tall! I will be here for a while, my wife is still in Korea, waiting for me to finish things up here. Its okay here, outside of the occasional rocket attacks, but they can never hit anything, so its okay.
Looking back at all the communities and places I have been, it looks like a long time has passed. But, in many ways, it really was only yesterday. I've changed in many ways, but I suppose I will always be, deep down, the same person I was when you knew me.
Take care of yourselves out there! Hope to hear from you!
