Joseph's Story

i started to bethany in sept of 1959 wow 50years ago . my teacher was ola rierson, she was born in 1900. my 2nd grade teacher was glenda case, my third grade was ethalinda griffin, 4th grade was verna lea grant, 5th grade was ruth battle smith, 6 grade was gail fannon, 7 grade was david thurman bowers, 8 grade was donald chilton. after this , i was out of bethany's elementary grade. high school began, in 1967, most of my classmates went the whole 12 years at the school...Expand for more
. the school opened in the mid 1920s. the high school was merged as rockingham high schoool at wentworth. we hope to have a new high school in the bethany community. i like to see it named southwest rockingham high school . maybe their sports name would be the bulldogs. i played sports at bethany. my grandfather came to bethany in 1901 and he was a doctor there 45 years. bethany's name came about from the methodist church so named by thomas r. totton its first pastor.
