Joy's Story
After high school, I went to Purdue and graduated in 2001 in OLS with a CPT minor. I started out in the restaurant business and determined that it was awful - a lot of hours for little money :p
I have been working at Purdue since 2004. I married my college sweetheart in 2003. In January of 2007, I found out I was pregnant with our first child. In February, we went in for my first appointment to see our baby's heartbeat and found out I had what is called a Molar Pregnancy (check out babycenter.com and search molar pregnancy). cells left from a molar pregnancy, if not evacuated, can morph into cancer and in mid February, 2007, I got a call from my Dr. saying that I had developed cancer, and through March and April, I went through chemotherapy. At the end of April, my numbers were back to normal. After a very negative reaction from my boss when I returned to work full time, I was forced to search for a new position. I have finally found a wonderful, stress-free job and have been cancer free now for almost a year. I now have a 1 in 4 chance of another molar pregnancy occurring, but hope to have happy healthy children soon. Needless to say, 2007 was NOT my year. Hopefully 2008 has much better things in store!
