Joy's Story
Let's see...my story in a capsule. After high school, I went to college for one semester and dropped out. Then I worked odd jobs and travelled around the country until 1973, when I was married. I went back to school and eventually earned a Master's Degree from NYU in Rehabilitation Counseling, Specialty in Deafness. I had my first daughter in 1978. During and after going to school part-time, I worked full-time as a singer in several bands and acoustic duos for 15 years. I worked in Rehab Counseling for 3 years. back to school for Computer Programming. I worked as a Systems Engineer for 18 years. I was married again in 1987 and adopted two baby girls, in 1991 and 1993. So I have 3 daughters. I took a voluntary retirement in 2000 and have been retired ever since. My husband was a Systems Engineer and is now a Cardiac Nurse. I periodically do volunteer work as a GAL (Guardian Ad Litum) being an advocate for a child or children who have been removed from their family by Wake County Social Services.
