Joy's Story

My friends probably remember me as smiling on the outside but stressed-out on the inside. Life was kinda crazy in the seventies, wasn't it? I've never been a kegger-queen. That was a hoax perpetrated by my best friends. OK, I did have a few parties, just for fun. Well intentioned but a little misguided, that's me! After high school, I stuck pretty close to home. Attended school in Portland for a year, then came back to Kirkland and worked for Betty's Apparel in several locations. After that, I managed a health food store on Mercer Island and then worked a few years at Frederick & Nelson in Seattle. That was a fun place, aside from having to walk past the perfume-spritzing cosmetics vendors on the first floor. My favorite past job was working at drugstore.com in fraud prevention. Fun place, fun people, great place to work. Too far to commute from Olympia, and I wanted to do something I love, so I'm selling real estate. You can tell a lot about a person just by walking through their home... Besides 20 years on Finn Hill, ...Expand for more
I've lived in Houghton, Rose Hill, Eastgate, East of Renton, and now South of Olympia in an old farmhouse on 4 acres. I love it. I have four children. My boys, Jeff and Brian were born in 1982 and 1984, with a big gap before my girls Grace and Carly in 1996 and 1997. Having kids totally changes your life. They are each unique and wonderful, and drive me crazy in their own special ways. Ron Workman and I divorced in 2001. After a few years as a single mom, I married Bob Moran in 2007 and moved closer to my parents in Olympia. I visit JHS occasionally, since my friend Debbie teaches there. Its a whole different place than we remember, yet vaguely familiar. You can still see a few pillars... Reaching the half-century mark made me realize that people don't really change that much over their lifetime. You are who you are, and age only changes the way you look on the outside. I've been priviledged to know some pretty amazing people over the years, and none of them were defined by their age. So, when is the next reunion?
