Joyce's Story

Workplace I started out waitressing, went to school a lot, worked odd jobs until I started driving school bus in NY. Moved around the world as a military spouse, doing mostly daycare and managing commissary baggers. Joined the local volunteer fire dept. with husband, became an Emergency Medical Tech and firefighter when I wasn't sunstitute teaching. I don't sub any more since my home-based business started growing rapidly. I am running my own direct sales craft type business. Anyway, I work in my home, when I want, as much as I want and determine my own pay. Not bad, huh? I meet LOTS of new people every time I do a expo AND our products have been commissioned by a local craft store as well! It's important in life to trust in God to show you what to do and you will be successful and enjoy your life at the same time. Military I spent from 1975 to 2001 as a miltary wife. Not the nice coffee serving kind, but the active, take care of the soldiers kind. I would organize support for the guys leaving or coming back from anywhere, and made sure the single soldiers had somewhere good to eat on Holidays, etc. I've been to Germany (8 years), Austria, Holland, Spain, France, Belgium, and (what used to be) East Germany and "the Border". It was great! And the most beautiful place was Wildflecken, Germany - where Hitler had his Secret HQ. It seemed like I was overlooking the world at the top of the hill and could see the Monastery 2 mountains away. LOVED IT!! We retired in Kentucky, outside of Fort Knox in God's country. Yes, it's rural - d...Expand for more
on't think I could handle NY hustle and bustle for long nowadays. We may be retired from the miltary down here, but definitely NOT from life! We are both firefighters and First Responders. Marty - husband of 20 years this June - works for a government contractor, and I own my own direct sales business dealing with wood decorations and original works. Most of our kids stayed close- one is a military spouse and two others are veterans. Our daughter Shannon was active duty as a military police person, our daughter Tara married a soldier, our daughter Jessica is currently married to an active duty soldeir at Ft. Lewis who has been overseras and in not nice places several times. Our son, Larry, joined the Army and learned to be part of the infamous 82nd Airborne. It gave him a lifelong love of skydiving, and he was also stationed in some not nice places overseas. With Marty retired from the military and working for a contractor and the kids all being vets or married to them, and Larry now working for a contractor also, we are a pretty patriotic family. We all hate what has been happening to our country. We all love animals and all have plenty of pets. I was once a military certified veterinary technician throough the army at Ft. Sam houston and still use those skills to tend to all our animals, including my 8 dogs (from English Mastiff to Chihuahua) and 2 cats. we love where we live, though NY will always be my home, just as PA will always be Marty's. Depending on the season you will either hear at our house GO YANKEES! or GO STEELERS!
