Joyce's Story
I grew up on Salt Point Ranch north of Fort Ross, California where I attended Fort Ross Elementary School. I then moved to Sebastopol, California where I graduated in the class of 1961 from Analy Union High. I enrolled in Santa Rosa Junior College, but dropped out to marry Ted Fox in 1962. We moved to his home town, Tacoma, WA. I still have the home we bought there in 1967 in University Place. I worked for Tribune Publishing for three years then quit to follow my husband's dream of fishing. We lived aboard a 38' cement hull commercial trolling vessel, 'The FV Mistress' with our three boys. That was an incredible experience that I would never trade away! Nor, would I ever repeat it! Hahaha! I later graduated from Tacoma Community College in 1981 with a 4.0 grade point average (with a full-time job and four children!). I earned a double degree from University of Puget Sound as a member of the class of 1983. Beginning in 1983, I worked at Whittiker, Lipp and Healy, CPA's, then, Clover Park School District. After all of that schooling, and experience, I decided that I really hated accounting! I quit and became a nanny for my attorney's three children. I then moved on to providing licensed day care for the state of Washington. I eventually owned and managed three day-care facilities and taught a private pre-kindergarten class for 20 years. I formally retired in 2007. My beloved husband and ...Expand for more
sole-mate, Ted, died suddenly in 2009 from mesothelioma. He contracted it aboard the USS Ranger while in the USNavy. We had just purchased our country home on forty acres near Quincy in Central Washington when he was diagnosed...he lived for eight months despite kemo etc. I now divide my time between the home in University Place, the home in the country near Quincy, and the home I share with my son, Eric and daughter-in-law, Caroline in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, W.I. We own Wildfun Jets and Tours, LTD...a jet boat thrill ride company based there.
I have five children...one of whom was adopted...adopted daughter--Kimberley and Steve have two sons, Taylor (TJ), and Corey...Son--Terry (TJ) and Theresa have three children, Cassandra (with one daughter, Breelynn, my great granddaughter!), Kristina and Sam...Son--Eric and Caroline...Son--Andrew (Andy) and Julie have two children, Hunter and Maryn...Daughter--Melanie and Robert (Robb) have two children, Alexander (Alex) and MargaretAnn (Maggie). Terry and Theresa and Melanie and Robb live in Quincy...Andy and Julie and Kimberley and Steve live in Tacoma...Cassandra and Bree live in my home in Quincy while she finishes beauty school...Corey lives in a rented trailer on my 'back forty'.
I am an avid supporter of The Seattle Sea Hawks, NFL; the Seattle Mariners, MLB; and the Wenatchee Wild, NHL...but I am learning to understand and enjoy cricket in Jamaica.
