Joyce's Story
Been studying the Civil War and was glad to find 'Grant' ð Portland has Grant High, I went to Parrish Jr., than North Salem High, first graduating class from North., The Vikings! Worked in San Francisco, married, had 4 children, now 9 grandchildren! Husband died of Prostate Cancer, now I'm settled in a little apt in Hillsboro, Oregon in the middle of shopping malls, all kinds of trees and Kaisers new hospital right next to me! I am a Caregiver, love what I do! e wood going in that big furnace, always stoking the fire and and keeping the wood stacked! When it rained we would have gym in the basement and ' tumbling' Also learned the Turkey Trot and other fun dances! Outside we would play Steel Sticks and all kinds of neat games! I chipped my tooth playing Steel Sticks! Inside the school were lots of steps, big high ceilings and loved the desk with our ink wells and then at lunch time we got newspapers to cover our desk, before getting chocolate and/or white milk and then our sack lunch! My first grade teacher Mrs Gaynor, had a sign under our clock. 'Time Passes Will You' .
