Joyce's Story
After graduation in 1957, I attended Lowell State College (now University of Lowell). I majored in music education and graduated in 1961. I was supervisor of music in the Littleton public school system for three years. In my sophmore year of college, I met a Norwich University cadet and married him in 1964 when he was a fourth year medical school student. We spent his internsip in Grand Rapids, MI where our first daughter,, Linda was born. Residency was in Columbus, Ohio where Julie made her debut. After two years in the service, we moved back to Mass to the Springfield area. I took time off from work to raise the girls, and in 1987 I took on the position with the Springfield Literacy Network as coordinator of their ESL and citizenship volunteer training program for four years. In 1989, my husband, a psychiatrist, and I took a 25th wedding anniversary trip to Maui, HI. We both fell in love with the islands and purchased a few weeks of timeshare there, returning annually. vels and experiences with my Hawaiian family. In 2004 my precious granddaughter was born. Shortly thereafter, after 40 amazing years together, my husband passed away, a devastating situation for our family. We persevered and, fortunately, he left his family well taken care of. In 2008 after a two-year hiatis and many re-writes and edits,my first book titled "In the Presence of Angels" was published. My second book, "There Is No Veil," will be published at the end of August. I've already begun book three, a compilation of Hawaiian legends for ages 8 - 12. To get out of my head and work with my hands, I am building a "big, beautiful" dollhouse. I also paint in watercolor and maintain a private music practice. Life isn't perfect, but all in all, it's pretty darn good. Now at age 70, I find myself wanting to connect with high school and college classmates. In order to do this, I plan to subscribe to Classmates.com in the near future.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right..
