Joyce Sims:  

Life Graduated in 1957 from Blackwood Business College. Accepted a position with a company that was pioneering in a relatively new area in telecommunications. Attended night courses at OCU for 2+ years. In 1964 the company was acquired by a Fortune 500 Company and the headquarters for the telecommunications subsidiary was moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1968 and to Denver in 1971. I moved to Colorado Springs and was married to Don Sims in 1968. Don was a widower with 4 children (3 boys and a girl). Don was an avid golfer. In 1972 the family learned to play golf and joined him on the golf course. The family learned to downhill ski in 1973 and enjoyed many ski seasons at the family condo in Vail. I did volunteer work at the children’s schools as well as at the El Paso County Health Department (Visiting Nurses’ Association, Well Baby Clinic and Sickle Cell Clinic), at the Domestic Violence Prevention Center and at Pikes Peak Hospice. Our two older boys graduated from the University of Colorado/Colorado Springs, our youngest boy graduated from DeVry and Doris graduated from Pikes Peak Community College. Don died unexpectedly in 1990. Our second son died in 1995 of a brain carcinoma – he was married with three sons.
