Joyce's Story
Life
I was born in Wichita, Ka. in 1935 and lived in Dodge City till 1945.
I was adopted and an only child.
Attended Central Elementary school in Dodge and Sanford Elementary in South Gate, Ca. where we moved in 1945. Went on to South Gate Jr. High and High School. I always loved school and made a lot of friends there. Graduated from SGHS in 1953(Summer) and went from there to William Woods College in Fulton, Mo. a girls christian school. I met my husband in Long Beach after a skating party. We were married in Las Vegas in 1956.
He was career Navy. We moved to Wash. D.C. and our first child Lynne Marie Swanson was born in Bethesda, MD. in l957. We have lived in CA., Va.,MS., TX., AL., and FL. Our 4 boys were born in Calif.
I have attended Bee County College in TX and Seminole Community College in FL. My husband died in l994 and I have been a workig woman allmost all of the time. Retired from J.C. Penney in 1981 and have been involved in Church, volunteering, painting, reading, some travel, scrapbooking and my grandkids of which I have 5 in FL and one in Washington State. to become a great-grandmother for the first time in September. My oldest grandchile who is in the Navy and his wife are expecting a baby boy. All in all my life has been very fulfilling. Would like to hear from anyone who remembers me kindly. On September 14, we were blessed with a new generation in our family. My oldest Grandson Douglas Palen and his wife Melissa presented us with a new great-grandson, Gavin Douglas Palen. Gavin's dad, Doug is career Navy and stationed in San Diego.
We will have to wait 'till Christmas to see the baby in person, although my daughter his grandmother was there when he was born.

Thought I would update this a bit. Doug and Melissa now have another son named Ryan. Hi is already a year old and Gavin is three. My middle son Dean's oldest girl, now married to a fellow named Mike Ingram, has a new baby boy (10 mos.) named Ethan. My family is growing a lot. There were about 2 years that I had to give up painting, but am back to it, now. Most everything is still the same.
