Joyce's Story
Life
My husband and I are living in Middleburg, FL, which is near Jacksonville. My son and daughter and their respective families live within this area. I have three grandchildren and one step-grandchild. I'm spending time with the grandchildren and watching them grow. They are all in the same age-range, born in 2001/2002. My Dad and my 3 sisters all still live in Independence, MO. Mom passed away in August 2009. I retired on September 30, 2005 from Civil Service - Dept.of Defense (Navy). I'm doing a little traveling and whatever the heck else I want to do. We've recently acquired a small, older home in Independence that we're going to use seasonally - when the mood strikes us. It'll feel strange to "live" back in Independence again after being gone since 1968 (and having only been in the area to visit family and friends throughout the years). As a hobby, I enjoy working as our 68 Class Administrator on an alumni site at w w w dot chrisman68 . (com).

y in August 1968 for a 3-year enlistment. I was sworn in at the recruiting station in Kansas City, MO. I went to boot camp at RTC(W) Bainbridge, MD where I was assigned to Company 5. A couple of my personal highlights were: I was elected by my company co-recruits as Company Song Leader (comparable to a cadence-caller, only with mostly singing songs that had a marching rhythm); and: when we became senior company, I was elected as Regimental Song Leader by both our company and sister company. From Bainbridge I was assigned to Aviation Maintenance Administrationman A School at NATTC Memphis, TN. Upon graduating from A school, I was stationed for one year at N.A.S. Corpus Christi, TX with VT-27, an aviation training squadron. For my final year of service, I was stationed at N.A.S. Quonset Point, RI and was assigned to the Operations Maintenance Department (OMD). As a collateral duty at Quonset, I earned Naval Aircrew wings and served as flight attendant on COMFAIRQUONSETs VC-117D Aircraft.
