Juanita (Nita)'s Story

Life After graduation in 1966, I went to CSU for one year; got married; had Michael Christopher and got divorced. I went back to school in 1974 and moved to Edmond. I received 2 Bachelor's degrees. BA in Sociology; BBA in Business-Personnel Management. I worked for the Dept of Human Services for 15 years and Hertz for 4 years, with numerous jobs in between. I retired in 2001 because of my back and neck. I wasn't expected to live for 5 days in 2005 due to an ischemic colon and saw the gates of heaven when my blood pressure bottomed out. One of my best friends and surrogate mother, Vada, was there waiting for me but she waved me back and I lived. Life has been interesting since I retired. It's hard to do the things I used to do and so some things are limited. I met the love of my life on St. Patrick's day, 1972 and have never forgot him. He will always have a place in my heart. But life goes on and whatever God has in store for me, I pray for his guidance and wisdom to carry out those plans. My son, Michael is doing great. He may be getting married soon and hopefully there will be grandchildren---finally. I regret always that I didn't have more children but it was probably for the best. I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to everyone at the reunion last year, but I felt really overwhelmed. I had not completely recovered from my surgery in 2005 and was getting ready for my second surgery the following month. It...Expand for more
was good to see everyone but again I was really overwhelmed by the room size, the loud music and the number of people. I was still pretty weak. Four of my six brothers have died. Donnie who went to school with us until 1963, died in July just before the reunion. I was so glad Tommy Mustain was there. He had some good things to say about Donnie and believe me I know Donnie wasn't an angel but he was still my brother. My three other brothers died in 1998, 2001 and 2002. They were my middle brothers and I was closer to them than most of the rest of my family. They were typical big brothers who teased and picked on me most of the time. It's been a hard couple of years, but I look forward to the next reunion where I'll be in better shape and hopefully will get to talk to more people. It was good seeing Linda Muse, Brenda Walker, Johnny Carroll, Hank Batty, Vicky and Othel, (what would I have done without Vicky when I was in the hospital) and of course Patti Crow. Isn't it amazing how many of us were there? I thank God that Rita made it out of the Federal Building. She was always such a positive person in HS. I'm so glad Joe is back with his wife. He looks so much happier than the last time. Bless you and your family, Joe. Hi to everyone else that I didn't get to talk to. I really wasn't up to all the festivities and next time, I promise, I will try to get to everyone I missed this time! Love to all, Nita
