Judi's Story
Life
I live in Innisfail, Alberta and have since 1977 when we moved here from Red Deer. My husband was in the tire business for about 36 years and only got out of it last July because he had a heart attack/stroke in March 2005 and needed to lessen his stresses. So we sold our business. I used to do the book work for him at home on the computer, but do not miss it at all as I now have more time to devote to my passion which is family history. I have over 30,000 names in my PAF (personal ancestry file) program and am finding out more and more as time goes on. It is just incredible to see how things mushroom!! This July (2008) I am having a family reunion for my father's side of the family (Lasseter) and it will be a very small gathering.
Frank has been on the volunteer fire department for almost 30 years and has been a commissionaire for the past few years, guarding prisoners at the local RCMP offices. I have been guarding as well and I just love it. I can do family history work while I am there. Frank watches DVDs on our portable player. He also works in the box at all the Eagles hockey games here in town during the winter. He used to curl, but can't anymore because he has a bad hip. He has always been a very busy man.
I taught in Primary at church for many, years but when Frank was sick, I was released from that position. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, joining in 1964. I attend the Temple in Edmonton regularly. It is the most wonderful and peaceful place on earth.
Our oldest son, Ryan is married to Karie (Tonn) and they have 2 children, Lucas (almost 12) and Avery (a girl, almost 10). Ryan was a sergeant in the RCMP and was stationed in Ft. Vermilion, AB. They live in LaCrete which is about 30 minutes away and is a very Mennonite community. They really like it there as things are pretty safe and the people honest and God fearing. They have a beautiful Cape Cod house with dormer windows and a verandah across the front and it has 7 bedrooms so there is plenty of room for visitors. Ryan and Karie have been in Kamsack, SK, Tuktoyaktuk, NWT, Ft. Good Hope, NWT, Ft. Smith, NWT, Rosetown, SK, and Humboldt, SK (before moving to Alberta in 2004) in their almost 13 years of marriage.
In 2007 Ryan had a minor stroke I assume mainly from the streses of work as he had an immense workload. He also found out that he has a small hole in his heart. He was being transferred to Red Deer to work in the transferring department of the RCMP, when he got a job offer in...Expand for more
La Crete that he couldn't refuse. So he has retired from the RCMP and is now the director of development and disaster services for the County of MacKenzie, the largest county in Alberta. He has since changed jobs to work for Knelsen Sand and Gravel, as their health and safety officer. They are a very large diversified company with sites all over Alberta. He loves this job but has to do a lot of travelling.
Karie is a teacher (grade 6) and is an excellent one. She also teaches aerobics and never seems to stop moving. Lucas, my grandson takes Jiu Jitsu lessons and is into video games. My granddaughter, Avery plays the piano, dances and is on the basketball team.
Our son Scott is in construction and is very busy here in Innisfail. He is married to Michelle, a girl from England who had two daughters when she moved here in 1999. They have been married now for almost 9 years. Sophie is in grade 10 (2011) and Ruthie is in grade 6 (2011). Our other grandson, Jonah, lives in Drumheller with his mother.
We seem to be a Disneyland junkie family for sure. It started in 1979. We went again in 1983, 1999, 2001 (Disneyworld), 2003 (Disney cruise), 2005, Christmas trip in 2006/07. In 2005 Frank had just got out of the hospital from his stroke and he couldn't travel, so it was fun for him to go at Christmas. Frank and I have also been to Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, Utah, Washington State, Montana, Idaho, several trips to BC and I went to visit my sister, Lori who lives near Halifax, in 2004. Frank has also been to the Barbados and San Diego on a tire trip.
My mother was killed in a car accident in October 2001. It was such a shock, but she never had to suffer in a hospital bed hooked up to tubes and that was a blessing. I miss her every day of my life.
My brother Rick lives in Edmonton with his wife, Cindy(from New Brunswick), my brother, Warren lives at Cold Lake with his wife, Kelly (from Newfoundland), and my step sister, Linda lives in Calgary with her husband, Don. My sister, Lori Ann lives just outside Halifax, NS with her husband Matthew and son, Seth. One step father died in 1976 and the other lives in Medicine Hat now. He and Mom used to live at Sylvan Lake.
Both my brothers were in the Air Force but Rick now drives truck for Canadian Tire and Warren was working for Canadian Natural Resources as a Power Engineer. He has since changed companies but I'm not sure of the name. Linda works at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) in the office and Lori is in the insurance business.
