Judith's Story

Hi! I can't believe all these years have gone by! I didn't actually graduate from Grade 12, rather from Success Business College my Gr. 12 year, from which I got a job with Unemployment Insurance Commission, and held it until I was married in 1962. I'm now retired from the Fed. Gov't since 1997...I was a Programs Clerk, Receptionist, and other titles with Canada Employment & Immigration Commission...now under another title..since 1970 to 1997. I retired at 54 because I just couldn't stand all the changes...they didn't believe in "if it's not broke, don't fix it!", just kept things in a turmoil and it was quite stressful for a lot of us. I understand it's even worse now, so I'm glad I was able to escape with a great pension! I used to see some of our old classmates while I was receptionist, such as Sandra Fancy, who came all the way from B.C., I think, and that was exciting. Now, I keep busy singing with a group called "Happy Harmonies",who entertain at seniors and nursing homes, going to the pool for aquacise, bowling, playing Scrabble with a group of ladies, one of which is Priscilla (Nairn) MacLeod, one of my old school pals, and all the other things that crop up to keep life busy... sometimes I think I'll have to retire from retirement! Everybody tells me I haven't changed or aged, so I guess I'm still easily recognized. I still wear my hair in a short style because it suits me best, and if any of you remember, I used to go home at lunch time and wash my hair before returning to school at times; I still have to do this between things going on during the day! I guess I still dress as if I was a bit...Expand for more
younger...I can't stand the "old women's" style of clothes, but the younger style is a bit too much...so, I'm somewhere in the middle. I love shorts and capris, and even though ten pounds lighter would look great, my legs haven't aged much, so I still wear them. I like a good tan, too! I was always a shy person, more in the background, and kind of rebuffed any attention from boys, letting a couple I wished I had grabbed get away, but now I can at least socialize with both sexes (to a certain degree) and not be such a nerd, I hope, anyway. I also like to be "Dr. Weir" sometimes and offer my vast knowledge on what one should do for whatever, if I think I have a solution. I'm sure it must be appreciated sometime, anyway. I have now been married almost 48 years to Winston, and we have two children, Shelley and Trevor, three grandchildren, ages 19, 17, and 9, my mother is still living at 85 and still active. Winston was in the Air Force when we were first married, so we lived first in St. John's, Nfld, then Greenwood, Val d'Or, and Goose Bay before returning to Truro in 1970 to stay, when he got out of the service. We did a lot of travelling across Canada, U.S.A., and even Britain and Europe when Winston was involved with the Rental Association of Canada, and Mom and I were going to Florida almost every year for a sun fix, so I've had a very nice life to date. Winston retired from renting Ryder trucks in Oct.,2008, so we have done a bit of travelling since then, our most recent trip being to Florida and had a very nice visit with Karen Awad while we were there. I hope we do more of it in the years ahead.
