Judy's Story

Wow, I have been very fortunate to have had a very exciting life! After college I moved to Milan, Italy and worked as a fashion designer apprentice. Married an Italian who was a fashion design photographer¿s assistant. We had two wonderful daughters who now live in Lexington and one has two children and the other just married. After that husband I married a Doctor who took me on a whirlwind around the country, living in Wisconsin, Utah, California, Texas and back to Kentucky. During this time I had the opportunity to go to The American Film Institute Graduate School in Los Angeles. I was able to do student movies and work on movies with famous people, like Keanu Reeves and Robert Urich. My teacher was the Production Designer for Hitchcock! A great experience. After settling in KY and attempting to do films and not much happening in that area in Lexington, so I tried doing a little more graduate work in studio art/art history at UK. I painted a lot and exhibited my paintings, even sold some! I had the opportunity to get into travel consulting and it was fun because of all the traveling I had done. I also bought an old house in the historic South Hill Neighborhood and restored it. My contractor was this nice guy, Tom McDowell. My Doctor husband took up his family¿s drinking curse and we divorced. Lucky for me, my wonderful restoration guy divorced around the same time but he had taken a job in Washington, DC. Fate would have it that I called him to fix something at the house and he was in Lexington seeing his daughter. We met and the rest, as people say, is histor...Expand for more
y. Today we¿re happily married and share all the same interests and have more fun than two old folks should have. We live in a house in Southern Maryland that was built in 1741 on 280 acres of beautiful land. We have two precious Jack Russells that we take on walks through the forests on the property. We love exotic food, Italian and French wines, movies, and mostly traveling. This spring we went to a cooking school in southern Italy, then explored the Villas of Palladio and the regions of Tuscany / Florence and Veneto/Venice. In 2006 we went to Paris again but ventured further to Normandy, seeing Mt St Michele, Honfleur (a must see in one¿s life), Bayeux, and Beaches of D-Day as well as the vacation beaches of Deauville and Trouville. The year before we did Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Rome and southern Italy. You can see I always like to end in Southern Italy. We¿ve been to so many incredible places that I feel so blessed. Oh, and I can¿t leave out the lovely Cotswold and Wiltshire in the English countryside. We hope to move back to Lexington (but when Tom retires in the next few years. I guess I¿ll try to work most of my life to keep up our traveling addiction. But I¿d also really like to get back into painting and doing art again. We look forward to taking advantage of the Donavan Program at UK and take all the classes we¿ve yearned to take. I guess all this is one perk of getting old. Talking about old¿. I just can¿t believe that I¿m talking about retiring, about participating in programs for the old¿ we¿re there aren¿t we? It just happened in a blink.
