Judith's Story
Probably the thing that would surprise most of my classmates is that shortly after I married in 1963, my husband and I bought a motorboat, even though I had never been on one and he didn't know anything about operating one, and I became hooked on waterskiing, boating and lake activities, which has continued for 40 years. I loved to slalom ski, but my aging body couldn't take it anymore!l We had a house on Kentucky Lake for 25 years, and travel trailers before that, and I really miss that part of my life.
After graduation, I worked as a secretariy, and in 1969, I left Cicero, moving to Hollywood, Florida, where I was the Executive Secretary for the Hollywood office of Reynolds, Smith & Hills, a major Florida engineering/architectural firm. Loved living near the beach! In 1974, I moved to Trenton, Tennessee, a small town about 90 miles northeast of Memphis. I began working as secretary/paralegal to an attorney who, as a sole practitioner in a small town, practiced in all areas of the law. I attained the Certified Legal Assistant designation, promulgated by the National Legal Assistant Assn., after specialized schooling and a rigorous test. I loved my career; it was very interesting and rewarding, with every day bringing a new challenge. In...Expand for more
2007, my employer, who was 84 and suffering from Parkinsons disease, was still coming into the office on a daily basis, seeing clients and handling estate matters. However, after he suffered a serious head injury from a fall, I had to close out the remaining files, and in 2009 the law office was closed. I now work from home, handling his business and personal affairs, including managing a staff of 6 caregivers who provide round-the-clock care for him. Completely different set of responsibilities, and not as much fun! He was and is a wonderful person to work for, and I consider it a privilege to assist him now. His only child & grandchild live out of state.
I've also been selling antiques/collectibles in area antique malls for over 20 years. With the economy like it is now, it is a hobby instead of a money-making business, but its fun.
I love to travel, have been to all 48 continguous states, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and several European countries. I still go back to the Cicero area a couple times a year to visit my family. I'm looking forward to Morton's 50th class reunion on Oct. 1.
I am happily single, divorced for 10 years after being married for 38 years to the same guy. My only child died shortly after his premature birth.
