Judith's Story
Military
Went to bootcamp at Bainbridge, Md in July 1959 (Wow, that is a long time ago). Then on to various schools ET, E&EP, 'A', 'B', 'C' (3 schools). Reupped in 1961 and went to ET-B school at treasure Island Naval Base!
Got married July 1962, all my duty time was at GEMD, Pax River Md. Mustered out April 1964.
College
I attended St. Norbert's in 58-59, but ran out of money.Married for 25 years, I left "home" to return to university in 1989, so after divorce I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language in 1993, the year of my 35th H.S. reunion.
Subsequently did a Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language at Kent State University. Graduated at 55, and could not get a university job in the US, so accepted an offer from China .
Life after Divorce has been fantastic!
Went to the People's Republic of China in 1997. I became a Professor and Foreign Expert in English language, culture and writing , teaching English as a Foreign Language in some of South China's top univerisites. I have written seven textbooks for teaching and learnin...Expand for more
g English among the Chinese. City is Guangzhou (Canton) China. I have travelled more than 50,000 miles within China and part of Southeast Asia and not seen it all. What an incredible place.
Worked in China until 2009, twelve years. During that time, I travelled to Tibet, South Korea, Brunei, Malaysia and Cambodia. In 2007, I spent the entire summer in Europe visited France, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland and 13 of their cities. This was fantastic and can't wait to do it again!
Retired, not exactly
I have been living in northern New York state since I left China. First in a lovely cottage on Lake Champlain, with only a three minute walk for a swim or to catch my dinner. Now I am located near Lake Placid, NY (home of the Winter Olympics) in Bloomingdale, NY and land of cold and snow. We currently have two feet on the ground and it will stay for 2-3 months.
I am busy writing and hope to finish my 10th book by Christmas this year. I also enjoy cooking. Having grown up in Spitzer's Restaurant, it seems that cooking is in my DNA. I share this skill with my neighbors!
