Judy's Story
Life
Hi There!!
After leaving Jones, I attended Sam Houston State College in Huntsville for one year. I then went to work for an eye, ear, nose and throat doctor while waiting for my fiance, Johnny Mayes, to get back from his 27 month stint in Germany in the army. We married July 3, 1964, one month after he returned from Germany. We had 3 sons and I was pretty much a stay at home mom for 10 years. I sold Avon for 5 years to get out of the house a bit and talk to adults. Johnny and I seperated for 3 years while he pursued other interests. We divorced after almost 13 years of marriage and I went to work for Fluor Engineering Company as a Secretary in 1976. I retired from Fluor in with 28 years of service in 2004. I married Bendel Rushing in August 1978. He has 3 sons too and between us we have 11 grandchildren, 3 step granchildren and 5 great grandchildren. WHEW!! They do keep us and our pocket book busy!!
My greatest accomplishment was passing the CPS exam (Certified Professional Secretary)in 1990. I really surprised myself in passing this 6 hour exam. I have got to travel to several states attending the annual seminars for this group and love the networking and seeing old friends I have made there over the years.
I picked back up on my bowling about ...Expand for more
10 or 15 years ago and have been secretary of the Fluor Bowling League for about 6 or 7 years. I worked on several bowlathons for TIRR (The Institute for Rehabilitaion and Research at the Houston Medical Center) and for Jr. Achievement. I am NOT a good bowler but love the fun and commaradaree. To show my determination, when I tore a ligament in my foot while in Hawaii as soon as I got off crutches (and still with a boot on my foot)I started back limping up to the fowl line and throwing my ball. Then when I broke a bone in my right hand I started bowling left handed so I wouldn't miss a night!! BOY!! What dedication!! huh!?
We have travelled to Hawaii twice and to Lake Tahoe 3 times.
Well that's all for now. Write me sometime for more info!
My dear husband, Ben, passed away August 1, 2011, on our 33rd wedding anniversary, after a long journey with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia. His memorial was August 12. It was a beautiful service and so many friends and family were there... so many I had not seen in so long. I wish I had had more time to spend with each one. There were approximately 140 people there. What a tribute to him. I miss him terribly. My only comfort is that he is no longer suffering from this terrible, debilitating disease.
