Judy's Story
Life
Well, let's see. Just before graduation from high school, I was fortunate enough to get a job as a computer operator working on mainframe computers. In 1984, I landed a job as Operations Manager at Dart Container Corporation in Mason, MI. In 1991, I was promoted to Technical Analyst. In 1992, I became a licensed residential builder, and my significant other later to be husband started working for me! I worked at Dart for 12 years, retiring in 1996 when my son Benjamin was a year old, primarily to focus on his development. Benjamin was a preemie, weighing 2 lbs. 6 oz. Now, he is almost 13, very charming, funny, tall and handsome, but he is autistic. In 1997, my partner of 16 years and I got married, and the down side for him was that he could no longer collect unemployment in the Winter from me! a challenge, let me tell you! My husband became ill in 1999, and had to retire in 2002 from our construction business. I went back to work at Dart in 2003. I'm still in the IT field; this time as the Help Desk Manager. My husband's chronic illness prevents him from being able to do much, although he is still able to take care of the kids for now. We live in Mason, MI. Benjamin was in an Autistic Impaired program staffed by Ingham ISD, and get this; for 3 years his program was housed at Williamston Explorer Elementary! Benjamin is now in an AI Middle School Program at Williamston Middle School, our old high school. Fred and I have been together for 26 years, married for 10 years. Life with a special needs child, a chronically ill husband, and a very typical almost 6 year old daughter is very challenging, yet EXTREMELY rewarding!
