Judy's Story

Life I now live on a small farm in Myrtle Point, Oregon. We raise Suffolk sheepfor market and 4-H projects. The kids learn to drive tractor before they drive on the roads. We have an occasional pig, chicken, a few cats, along with a border collie who tries to keep everything in place with a new yellow lab who tries to keep up. We moved here in 1995 and don't plan on moving. We have three kids. The oldest graduated from USMA, West Point in May '06, who is now an Armor Officer with the Army. The second son graduated from MPHS June '06, who is now at University of North Dakota studying aerospace engeering and helicopter flight. Our daughter is now 17 and entering hr senior year. She loves to play volleyball and basketball. She is the tall one. We had the four year plan. I teach in a very small rural school in Powers, Oregon. I will have 5 or so third graders and twelve fourth graders. That is a large class for us. Carl is still with the Forest Service as Powers District Ranger. He does get very involved in fires and a National FEMA team. We are involved in 4-H with the local area mainly raising Suffolk sheep and selling lambs for table use. Eat lamb, it is great. Give us a call and stop by. College College took me a few extra years to complete. I interrupted it the first time when Carl and I got married in 1975. I worked in Eugene while he finished his five year degree in Landscape Architecture. I returned to OSU in '77 for what we thought would be the rest. Carl was given his permanant job offer with the Forest Service. We moved to Louisiana. I worked for 14 months and returned to school again. This time Northwestern State University. It is in the small town of Natchotches, LA, where Steel Magnolias was filmed. Yes, They do have a Christmas Festival and Easter Festival there. Just as I was beginning my senior year Carl was then offered a job in Pocatello, Idaho. So, you get the picture. BUT I jumped ...Expand for more
right into Idaho State University and ended with taking a fifth year and graduating with my first Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and Education in '81. I returned to ISU four years later and came out with my second bachelors degree. Yes, twice as much BS as most people. Met one of my closest friends while at OSU. I still love her eventhough she is from and still lives in California. I learned to speak with a thick southern accent while in Louisiana. We picked up some great recipes while there too. We also spent four years in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Both of us had wonderful jobs, but it is not the place to raise kids. So we looked for a rural setting where Carl could be a District Ranger. That brought us back to Oregon. After a few days in Myrtle Point I knew I was home. We both work in Powers, OR, about 23 miles up a beautiful, windy road. Powers is a very small town and I get to teach there. Our daughter is attending high school there and is a valuble player on the girls teams. Pocatello Idaho was where I finished my two BS degrees and gave birth to our two boys. Our daughter came to us much later, but not for lack of trying. This time we adopted. She was born in Oklahome while we lived in New Mexico, but we didn't get to meet her until we were in Oregon and she was already six. Boy, are girls ever different. I am now working on agriculture education programs to be used in my school district. Who knows, I may just get that masters only because I already hold two bachelor's degrees. I still do sewing when I have time, but also spend time in my flower garden, mostly roses and working with the sheep. I did get to design and make a wedding dress for Ehren's bride. It was great to do that again. Ehren got married Dec. 28,08, at Cannon Beach during that wonderful winter we had. Bryce is getting married July 3, 2010, outdoors, down here. We are looking forwad to retirement and the future of grandchildren.
