Judy's Story

Since graduating from high school I have traveled all over the U.S. I have lived in 8 states and and 24 houses. I have finally been in the same place now for 20 years so you can tell the first 15 where really busy. I have been a nurse, an EKG tech, an EMT, a store manager and the the last position I held was as a supervisor and purchasing agent for an oil field industry company. I was a lot of thing in between too but those are the high lights. I am now medically retired. I chaired 2 of the largest events in Lead, South Dakota for 4 years, ran for Mayor, helped save an Opera house built by Phoebe Hearst, worked with the Missoula Children's Theater group on a production of "The Wizard of Oz". I have been married 3 times, and have 2 kids, a daughter, Teresa, born in 1975. She is in the Air Force and is up for Captain. She is also headed to Afghanistan so say a prayer for her please. She has blessed me with 2 grand kids, a boy and a girl. I have a son John, in Kansas who will be getting married in September to a girl from Denver. He has blessed me with a grandson so far but hopefully maybe more. In 1995 I had a cerebral brain aneurysm that left me unable to walk, talk, or even eat. I could not even remember how to swallow. The right side of my body was totally paralyzed including my throat and my eye. After 5 months in the hospital and rehab, I was finall...Expand for more
y well enough to go home but could not go back to work because of the physical limitations and the memory problems, so to help try to get things coordinated again, I tried art and it became my therapy to get my brain and eyes and hands working with each other again. It was also a form of mental therapy to keep depression at bay and to help me work through the hard times. I can look at a lot of the paintings and tell what kind of day I was having by what the subject matter is and the colors I used. I have been fortunate enough to get into a local gallery and have sold a number of my painting now for a fair price. I have also started making silver jewelry and incorporating some of my painting into them and they sell well at local craft shows. There is some pictures in the photo albums. In what spare time I have, I teach watercolor or should I say mentor watercolor and painting to senior citizens at the local senior center. I really enjoy working with them and we have a lot of fun. I also quilt with them sometimes. I like to garden too but in Texas, the gardening is a lot different than in Colorado. I do more gardening in the fall and winter than in the spring and summer. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Sandra Blackburn, because We had great times in high school sneaking out for breakfast at the truck stop during business class.
