Julia's Story
I'm Julia L. Mitchell, I did not graduate at all yet. I was born in Alpine, California, in San Diego County. When I was 2 years old my mom rented a house in Lincoln, Arkansas. My dad bought a property in Mansfield, Arkansas when I was about 3. My mom cleared an area on the property, then moved a mobile home into the clearing, and we moved in. I started going to school at Mansfield Elementary, in Kindergarten in 1987-88 and finally graduated Mansfield Elementary in 1996 after failing 2 years of Homeschooling for the 5th grade. I left Arkansas on July, 9 of 1999 at the age of 17. I had graduated the 9th grade and was gonna be in the 10th grade at Mansfield High School. I moved with my mom and half-sister to Riverside, California. I started going to Lincoln Continuation/High School, when the new school year had started. I passed the 10th and...Expand for more
11th grade there. I was accepted into the JTPA(Job Training Participation Act) program in Lincoln High School. The kids that were accepted into the program were allowed to go back and forth between Lincoln High School and Riverside Adult School. We learned many types of new jobs that were available. We had gotten to do all kinds of different training in computers, movies, teaching you name it. It was really cool.
During that year in 1999 I started working, and have been working at various jobs since.
I have started going back to Yucaipa Adult School to finally finish my HSD.
I know Mansfield Schools didn't have enough funding to do anything really great for preparing the students for real jobs. So, I am really glad I got to see a different side of life and learning with moving to a different state. Big difference.
