Julie's Story

I was a little shy in High School, but I had a small group of friends that I hung with. I was in marching and symphonic band, led by Mr. Balfour. I played the clarinet. I loved going to see all the drama and music productions. I was awful at sports, but have been vindicated sort of by having athletic daughters! After I graduated, I went to San Diego State University, and graduated with a B. S. in child development. I grew and evolved into an outgoing person -College can do that! I got my multi-subjects elementary credential from Cal-State Dominguez Hills, married my high school sweetheart, Tom Carr, and eventually got a job teaching for L.A. City schools in one of their child development centers. We bought a real fixer-upper home in Torrance, had two daughters, raised them and survived all the adventures that children engage parents, including soccer, music, school, church activities, and the rigors and issues of raising a family. For 12 years, I had my own childcare - nursery school for 6, though I only took 4 children at a time. Became really involved with the women's group, bell choir and vocal choir in our church. I also completed the 9 year study with BSF;(Bible Study Fellowship), and enjoyed 10 years with Community Bible Study at Rolling Hills Covenant Church. Whe...Expand for more
n my eldest entered High School, I switched careers, and began compiling material for my husbands websites. I learned to do music reviews for christianmusic.com, movie reviews for movieactors.com and compile haunted house stories for hauntedhouses.com, among other things! To get our own pictures for our websites, we started to do road trips, when our kids were up and out, or in college. In 2007, we took a trip through the Midwest, and wound up in Milwaukee. Fell in love with Brumder Mansion Bed and Breakfast & the Cornerstone theatre;( mansion has a ballroom and stage in the basement.) When the owner put the mansion and the 1915 bungalow next door up on the market, we wound up buying both properties. We became owners of a bed and breakfast, of a ballroom with a stage; (perfect place to have events, concerts, and murder mysteries), and of a place to move our headquarters, our offices and personal space into the Bungalow. Wow! what a wild ride it has all been! We live in two places, though we're spending more and more time in Milwaukee. I have been changed considerably from my life experiences and the growing spiritual journey of my faith in the Lord. I regret that I can't come to the reunion, but I'll be thinking of you! Blessings in Christ, Julie Carr (Miesse)
