Julie's Story

After I graduated High School I worked at Clark Gas Station in Houghton until I married Michael Machowski in August 1977. I moved to Huntsville, AL then and was an Army wife for a year, in 1979 we then moved to Minneapolis, MN. On September 11, 1980 we had a son (Nathaniel Michael) born in St. Lewis Park, MN. In 1980 we moved to Loveland, CO, (I was 8 1/2 months pregnant at the time) where my second son (Daniel Leo) was born. We moved to Wheatridge, CO from Loveland and then to Federal Heights, CO after buying a home. I divorced Mike in August 1986 and married John Christian in April 1987, and lived in Denver, then moved Federal Heights, CO in 1989 where we bought a house, I went back to school at Parks College and graduated in 1995 with an Associates degree in Accounting and in 1996 I graduated from Parks College with an Associates degree in Business Management. I had a GPA of 3.89 which was not too bad for someone who was raising two teenage boys, working on starting up as company and taking care of a household. My husband and I built a company from the ground up, in the Air Freight business that expanded up to over 900 customers both domestic and international. This started in Denver and expanded to Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle and Portland and points beyond including Detroit, MI and Milwaukee, WI. We moved to Muskegon, MI in May 2000 where we have lived ever since. We manage a Modular Home Community with over 2000 people living in it. My son's still live in Federal Heights, CO and in Westminster, CO. Nathan got married to Elizabeth Crandal in September 2005 and has since joined the Army in September 2008. Daniel got an Associates degree in Auto Mechanics from Westwood College in 2002. And is working in a auto body shop. In 2005 I became a grandma to a beautiful girl named Kirsten Elizabeth Machowski. Kirsten is in the picture with me in the "now" photo. In 10 years, I hope to be running my own business. I'm going to achieve that I hope 5 years from now. My oldest friend from school days would have to be, Michel Machowski, he asked me if I wanted a ride home one day walking up Quincy Hill, I ended up marrying him. My accomplishments would be that I got an Associates Degree in 1995 in Accounting and an Associates degree in Business Management in 1996, at the same time I helped start up a business, and raise two teenagers. All of that and get a 3.89 GPA. Bet no one in my class would ever think I would ever do that.......goes to show how well people really knew me back then. I think that would surprise everyone in the Class of '76 that I was and am a very smart person if they only have gotten to know me, no one really wanted to know the real me and I kept to myself because of it. Everyone just saw me as the lunch ticket girl, or the weird girl that kept to herself, wanted to join the hockey team,(which the school would not let me)or join the Auto Mechanics class,(again the school would not let me), and I believe I was the only person in the school who wore her father¿s Dress Navy Whites to school! I think the wildest thing I did in school was wearing my father¿s Dress...Expand for more
Navy Whites to school, wanting to join the hockey team and the auto mechanics class. What have I done since school? My first job was at pumping gas at Clark Gas Station, where I got paid 5.50 per hour, to starting a company in Denver, CO to becoming a Business Office Manager. What I remember most about everything is that I enjoyed every job and adventure I have encountered along the way. I always wanted to be an Accountant when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were completely wrong, even though I am not an Accountant, I am very successful. Usually to blow off steam I go for a drive, or slam doors! If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a clean and orderly desk, good people to work with, and stability to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My hero is my grandmother, she taught me never to give up on my dreams, never take no for an answer, and as long as you believe in yourself, you have no limits to your abilities. The one people from my past who I'd most like to see again are all of the class of 1976, because we all need to catch up with one another again. The biggest surprise that I have encountered in my life since High School was divorcing Mike, I didn't have to work, he took care of the boys and I very well, however I was not happy, I did not have an identity, I needed more, so I got a job and met John, saw what I wanted, went after him and got what I wanted, a divorce, independence and a great man who loves me, respects me for who I am, supports me through everything I want to try. John is my "partner in crime", my life, my strength and my future. I couldn't ask for a better person to spend the rest of my life with. He is fun to be around 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen and add on a a room or two. My dream home would be on 40 acres of land. If I won $100 million, I'd give a lot of it to my retirement, and then spend the rest on my children, my grand children¿s education and my parents. My current age is 50. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be grumpy old people. I was so completely wrong. I am a very hard worker who is very detail oriented and always enjoy a challenge. Mike was my first crush; he has been married three times now and is still not happy with what he has. Maybe I crushed his heart when I left him. My best friend would tell you I'm a great person, a great listener, honest, and very devoted, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a bit high spirited. The weirdest job I ever had was cleaning Continental aircraft. But it worked out, I met John there! I share my home with my husband and my cat, which I find completely satisfying. Hmm do over huh? I would not have moved to Muskegon. Not with today's economy!! It reminds me of when I first moved from the UP! That is my life, in a short novel on here! I am happily married, have two great children who I am very proud of, and I'm a grandmother! And I still don't have to dye my hair because I do not have grey hair!
