Betty Jo's Story
I graduated from Fremd HS in 1970. The times I spent at Fremd, I do remember fondly and I also recall the untimely deaths of four or five classmates from car accidents.
I also remember being in Social Studies when the Principal made an announcement calling for a moment of silence over the death of an 18 year old prior graduate from Fremd who had been killed in action in Vietnam. It is said, "Youth is Immortal" but I suspect our class of 1970 didn't feel that way.
I remember our senior prom queen became a nun ( DeeDee DeMarco) and I remember those delicious chocolate shakes for lunch. I remember Study hall and how all of the desks were bolted to the floor. I remember the new construction and the construction workers too...one asked me out while I was a hall monitor! HAHA! I remember football, basketball, baseball great, Bob Moloznik and of course I remember having a crush on him...Expand for more
too! I asked him to the "Turn-About" dance and he accepted and I remember neither of us said two words to each other as we were both so shy.
I remember going to Young Life meetings with what seemed like hundreds of kids packed into each other's homes on any given school night for meetings! I always wanted to be an actress but I became a nurse instead! I married and divorced with no children and then moved all over the USA from New York State to California.
I have been living in my hometown of Kansas City for the past 22 years and I work for a large Insurance Company. I adopted my 2 daughters from The People's Republic of China in 1996 and 2001. My girls are 12 (almost 13) and 8. I am a happily single career mom! In 2014, my oldest daughter will graduate HS....44 years after I did! Can you imagine, almost a half century later! Thank Goodness for mosturizer! HA!
Best, BJ Maggio
