Kanitha's Story

Life I started just like any other freshly graduated senior from high school and went to college. I started going to Butler County Community College right after high school in pursuit of my plan in becoming a music teacher. After 3 years I was still in search for something better. Looking through the newspaper saw an intersting job. The article said "Engineer wanted no experiance necessary. Are you 18 years or older? Do you have a high school diploma? Did you pass high school or college Algebra? If you answered these questions yes please call 1-800-???-????." (I don't remember all of the number) The next thing I found out it was an add to the United States Navy. I asked questions and things and I told them that I wanted to join the Navy Band. They said "Okay we'll set you up an audition." Audition day came and I tried out. The person auditioning me said "You are good, but not good enough. Why don't you go ahead and join up and audition again later." And so I did, but I never did audition again. I didn't have the time it takes to practice anymore and with a schedule that I have it was also difficult for me to plan for lessons let alone trying to find a French Horn Teacher here in Louisiana in the land of Jazz. I ended up staying in a very boring job for 4 years. Now I just recently transferred to a squadron VP-94 still in New Orleans LA. Life has gotten much better since the change in fact I may make the Navy my career from here on out since it is a good steady job and I'm just now getting to see the pay that I'm going to be getting in the near future. ke care of a library. Right now I take care of over 1500 books that doesn't include my technical directives (paper pamphlet books). Hopefully my command is going to place me somewhere else. I don't mind working in the job, but sometimes I like a little difference every once in awhile. I'm happy that I'm a TAR(training active reservist) mainly because my whole purpose in the Navy is to train all the reserves. That means the military would have to run out of reserves before they send me out to war. Besides I'm an office worker they wouldn't put me in the front lines anyway. I know joining the Navy is about the best thing that I have done in my life otherwise I would probably still be in a dead end job like in fast food. Military I was 23 years old when I joined the navy. At the time I was going out with a 19 year old guy. Apparently long distant relationships never works. Since then I haven't gone out with a guy since until I was 27, but even now he's gone and I'm alone once again. My first duty station was at a station weapons working on periodic maintenance schedules and records on support equipment gear. I hated the job. Being a female and have totally different intrest from the rest of the guys made life miserable and boring. Now I'm working as Central Technical Publications Librarian (CTPL) and I love it (to a point). I'm in a squadron where I could possibly go places and at this time I just like the work that I'm in. I guess I enjoy it more now mainly because I'm in a bigger facility and have more people to converse with and being able to have something in common with at least 2 or 3 people. As long there's someone I can hang around with things get better (some of the times).
