Karen's Story

It's hard to remember what I was like in high school. I don't know how people remember me because I was shy and maybe invisible? I did know my friends from church and band. Friends from high school find it hard to believe that I have tattoos, leathers and my own a large cruiser motorcycle. I started riding in 2000. I had always called them murder cycles but when you go through tough times, nothing seems to bother you, so I took to the road and love it. I have rode my bike down the Blue Ridge Parkway, Key West and Cape Hatters on the Outer Banks of SC. Can't wait for another trip. Of course if you are a biker you know about the Tail of the Dragon in the Smokey Mountains. It has 113 cures in 10 miles, that was awesome. The wildest thing I did in high school was getting thrown out of the library. But then again EVERYONE did. I have worked at IU for 32 years as a secretary/records assistant in 4 different departments. There were no computers when I started so I had to write everything. I love computers and enjoy photography and travel. I love my 3 dogs, a poodle, doodle and terrier. I still live in Bloomington with my husband Bud. We go to the church that I grew up in, Fairview Methodist. I had a great childhood and am blessed with still having my parents. ...Expand for more
I grew up in Sherwood Oakes and my parents still live there. My husband has taught me about politics and have gotten interested in that lately in the last few years. I have helped with the Clerical Union website at IU. I also built the Facebook page for our 1975 BHSS class alumni. My best friend in high school was my boyfriend Mike Baker. Haven't seen him in years. A girlfriend Deb Martindale Otto was my closest friend in Junior High and we have kept in touch ever since. We even took a vacation together to Cancun 10 years ago plus a cruise for our 53rd birthdays. My other close friend from high school was Marla Deckard Gray, we became close friends when we started working together at the Public Library our senior year and have kept in touch too. My favorite vacations have been to San Fran, Cancun, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Rome and Cruises. My first thought about how my life turned out is the old saying "If I only knew then what I know now!"... I would have been involved with more activities in school besides just band. I would have gone to college. I would have kept the church and the Lord closer over the years. Life right now is about as good as it gets, so I'm pretty happy. I hope in 10 years I can retire and ride my motorcycle around the country!
