Karen's Story
Life
After graduating from UHigh, Karen went on to the University of Michigan and received a BA in English Literature.
In 1966 she married Gayle Helf but was widowed in 1967.
In 1970 she married John Thumm, also of Ann Arbor, and together they have raised two children; Tina (1975) and Dan (1978). In 1971 they moved to northern Michigan where they currently reside near Traverse City.
Karen "gave up" both horses and art for many years but returned to art school and graduated with a degree in Graphic Design/Illustration in 1984. She is currently working as a fine artist and is becoming nationally known for her equine art. To view her artwork, do a search online for "Karen Baker Thumm".
In 2006 Karen was accepted for associate membership in the very prestigious American Academy of Equine Art reaching a longtime goal that promises to bring further advances in her art career. Modelled after the Royal Academy of Art in London, the Academy is located in Lexington Kentucky.

John L. Thumm, DDS - 1976-present
Fine Artist -1986 to the present. I am an award-winning equine artist. Exhibitions include American Academy of Equine Art shows, Draft Horse Classic Art At the Classic and Harness Tracks of America shows among others. In 2005 my work appeared on the cover of a Swedish horse magazine, Hastfocus, along with a feature article about my life and art. I am the illustrator of the book, "The Michigan Shore To Shore Trail" and my work has appeared in Art Business News, Equine Images, Equine Vision/Horses In Art, Equus, Polo Players Edition and Paint Horse Journal.
I am now branching out into landscape and wildlife art. My work may be found at Adams Madams in Central Lake, Michigan and on my website.
