Karen's Story
So, let me just answer a few of the "story ideas"...
I would love to see Mr. Few. I loved his classes. I remember being sent to the hall for laughing with Sally during class. I remember studying world religions, and eating all that crazy food. I remember that he kept a notecard in his wallet where he had written the phrase "I love you, fat wife" in as many languages as he could possibly find. I remember that he would make the library assistants forward through any movie or filmstrip that came through with the song "Dixie" at the beginning. He would never let it be played in his classroom. I just remember so much about him, and that he loved being a part of our lives.
I would also love to see Mr. and Mrs. Daves. They taught us more about the real world than we got from most of our other classes.
And hmmmm... my first crush? I guess in high school, that would have to be Philip Benton. And I don't have any idea what happened to him.
To be truly happy would have to be where I am now. If I had my 'druthers', I'd be closer geographically to my family. I'd be in closer contact with a few great old friends that seem to have moved on with time.
My biggest surpises were finding out how much a parent loves a child, how bad a divorce hurts, and how wonderful it is to love after the hurt.
A do-over? Wow... I'd like to have two or three of those! I think the most pivotal life changing moment that forever changed the course of my future was Labor Day Weekend, 1979. Just after graduating, and 2 weeks prior to leaving...Expand for more
for GA Southern College, I had a major water skiing accident that twisted my leg almost backwards from the knee down. It dislocated my knee cap, and shredded everything in my right knee. I couldn't go to college that first semester because I was recovering from surgery, and this was dr.'s orders. I made some decisons during that time that didn't turn out to be exactly the best move for my life, and I never went to GA Southern. I have often wondered just how different my life would have been had I just not gone skiing that day. Not that I haven't had a good life, it would have just been so different. ( kinda like that movie "sliding doors?")
The weirdest job I ever had was being Mr. Peanut. I had to wear the Peanut costume and white gloves, and walk down the grocery store aisles. I couldn't speak to anyone, because Mr. Peanut doesn't talk. Me and the Kool-Aid Man would take breaks in the back.
I was born in Orlando, FL. We moved to Warner Robins when I was in the third grade. Dell Barker was my first friend I made when I moved there, and we are still friends today. Got married in 1985, moved to Marietta, GA. Back to Warner Robins for about a year, then moved on to Tullahoma, TN for about 10 more years. Got divorced, remarried, then moved with my new husband (met him on the Internet of all places....) to Florence, AL in 1999. We still live in Florence in an old house on the Tennessee River.
My best friend would tell you I'm funny, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as shy.
