Karen's Story
We moved to Oak Harbor in January 1968, I had just turned 10. It was the start of some very hard times for me, but also some amazing times, growth, revelation.
I missed Fresno, the sunshine I was so used to, hated the cold, wet & windy place that we had moved to... until we moved into an apartment above Chuck Dan's Sporting Goods on Pioneer Way, which happened to be directly across from the Beach (just across the parking lot of the Sprouse Ritz store) No beaches in Fresno!! So I almost lived on that beach for two years, rain or shine, no matter what the weather.. My spirit need to be close to the ocean, still does. It was my first awareness of a place of Sanctuary (and the need for it)

r at Oak Harbor Elementary school, Mrs. Marie Ball. She taught us through involving us, hands on everything from History to Geology, wrote (with our input) musical plays about our prehistoric world as well as Chivalry & honor & myth through a musical play about "Prince Paloo & the evil Dragadon" .... ( sung to the melody for "Heart & Soul) My little creative soul stirred & woke & has not stopped since! And unknown to the other children in my class, she often sent me home with cloting & stuff, knowing we were poor & living from day to day.
Oak Harbor Elementary is the first school I have more than a fleeting memory of. I only attended the one year, Transferring to Olympic View Elementary for Fifth Grade.
I am involved in Arts, Crafts, Music & Writing still to this day.
