Karen's Story
Life
I left Georgia in 1988 for Tulsa, OK. I received my BSN there from Langston University at the UCAT campus and worked at St John Medical Center in the Neonatal ICU for 2 1/2 years.
In May 1995 I joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX where I worked in the Neonatal ICU at Wilford Hall Medical Center.
In September 1999, I recieved orders to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. I worked in the Neonatal ICU at the Naval Hospital there.
In Septmeber 2003, we moved back to San Antonio, where I am again stationed at Lackland AFB and where I work at the Neonatal ICU as the Nurse Manager and the Coordinator of the pediatric heart-lung by-pass (ECMO) program. I pinned on Major, 5 July this year. I've made it this far, so will probably stay in.
I met my husband Dennis Larry in 1995, here in San Antonio, and we married in 1996. We are now divorced as of April 2006.
I have three children- Martel Antionne Jackson, now 21 years old. He attends Texas State University in San Marcos, TX (about an hour from SA). He plays football there. Tavarus Shamar Jackson, 20 years old, lives somewhere in Georgia. He calls me from time to time. Dennis Patrick Larry, 5 years old. He a...Expand for more
ttends a Christian school here in San Antonio.
I don't get back to Georgia very often. The Air Force keeps me pretty busy. I hope to stay here in San Antonio, but would love to go back to Okinawa if we had the choice. My youngest son was born and grew up there and still thinks it is home. It is so beautiful and peaceful, away from the rat race of America.
I am also due to leave San Antonio after the first of the year and it is now official!!!! My youngest son and I are moving back to Okinawa, Japan in January and will be there at least 3 years- hopefully four or five. Okinawa is a beautiful and peaceful place to live and raise kids. We will miss family, but it is a great opportunity. I will be working in the NICU there. My son Dennis will be going to a Christian school on the island. We have friends still there and friends that will be coming after we get there.
Martel should greaduate from college after summer semester 07. TJ is still somewhere in GA.
There are many friends that I lost touch with at graduation and I would love to hear from you. Ever want to come out for a visit to Japan-let me know.
My Mom, Marianne Adams, always knows how to reach me.
God Bless You and hope to hear from you.
