Life
I remember Mr. Walters (Band) used to tell us repeatedly: "Appreciate your life now because it will never get any better. This is the best time of your life." At the time it was the most depressing thing I'd ever heard because, if you remember me, you'll know that I was the Superintendent's daughter, fat, not popular, not a cheerleader, not on the drill team and not someone who turned anyone's head. Thank God Mr. Walters was wrong. The best time of my life is tomorrow and the day after that. University of South Dakota, managed a community theatre, directed and acted in many plays, moved into radio as a copywriter and ended up News Director at a station owned by Tom Brokaw. At 38 I married a TV news anchor and after having two children (boys) we moved to Illinois where we stayed for 9 years and where I co-hosted a morning radio show. Now, we're in Mississippi's capital city of Jackson and I host Morning Edition and a daily show called "Mississippi Edition" for the NPR statewide network, Mississippi Public Broadcasting. Life ain't bad y'all ... but I'm still fat ... damn.
