Karen's Story
July 18th 1989 I married the man I was truly destined to be with. Lord knows I kissed a few toads to find my prince, but it was worth it. I hope my toads found women that would be as good to them as my husband is to me. I have cosmetology license but can't use it due to disabilities. I have managed restaurants, convenience stores, worked for the state, dispatched for an alarm company, worked for the University of Hawaii. Moving and being a military dependent has allowed me the opportunity to not have to focus on a career to make money, but to venture out and do whatever I felt like doing. I have 2 beautiful girls who are almost grown now themselves. One is 17 and the other is 14. I am working towards my associates degree in Early Childhood Development. I suffer from Fibromyalgia I have had it since 2000 and I was recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in my hands, feet and back. I love working with kids and if I was in it for the money I would be doing something else. I am so not materialistic at all! I am a self admitted spoiled brat. Some of you that went to school with my older sisters might remember me as that little girl who was provoked by my siblings to kick you in the shins. I know Greg Strickland will always remember me as the little girl who jumped up on his tall self and cat-scratched his face after he jumped up from behind a bush and scared me at a halloween carnival. He has never let me live that down. Runs from me to this day at Halloween LOL.Still am Spoiled to this day, my husband cooks, cleans, does laundry, pays all the bills, and even grocery shops!! I am a military wife but I have been blessed, I lived in Hawaii for 5 years went back to E-to...Expand for more
wn for a few years got to spend some time with my mom before she died. Cried when I had to move to Gastonia,NC for 2 years only to love it there, my husband was in Iraq for 18 months while God surrounded me with good people, I didn't want to leave but the Lord moved me to Fort Bragg for 3 years. My illnesses are not affecting me as bad. Will have to wait til winter to see how I am really going to handle living here. So far I have seen foxes run along the woodline and a moose at my mailbox. She also likes to eat leaves on the corner of my street. She has a calf so you don't want to mess with her. Haven't seen any bears, don't want to. DAughter had a cross-country meet the other week and it was moved due to bears on the trail. I told her if she saw a bear she didn't have to run fast, just faster than the person(s) behind her. Just to give you a run down of where my sisters are, Shari is in Raleigh, has three 2 boys and 1 girl. Tammy is in New Bern and has 1 boy and 1 girl. Lori lives in Cedar Creek and works at the VA hospital, she spoils my kids and says they are enough. If you should see me anywhere please say Hi, I might not recognize you at first, depending on the type of day I am having. Fibromyalgia not only hurts my body but some days the pain is so bad everything takes a lot of effort to process. I just thank God that most days aren't bad ones. I am not the "little" girl I used to be. Steriods and some of the drugs I am prescribed have left me at a "thick" weight. I hate it when people see me and say "you got a little Thick didn't you" especially when they got a little thick too! LOL I just think I got a little older and I will lose this weight in due time.
