Karen's Story
Life
I grew up in Uniontown, PA, where I attended grade school, Jr. High, and my Freshman yr. at South Union (which is now Laurel Highlands). My family moved to Mount Pleasant in August of 1964. I attended Ramsay my Sophmore year, and joined you all at the new high school for our Junior year. I graduated on my birthday from MP.
I have four sisters: Susan, Nancy, Beth and Amy.
My father, Samuel Magie, passed away in April 1992. My mother, Frances, passed away in Sept. of 2005.
I have two daughters: Kelley Kattera Butler, and Michelle Kattera Pocratsky, and one son, Seth Overly.
I am married to David Lewis. He is the best thing that ever happened to me! I guess that the third time is definitely a charm.
David and I have three grandchildren: a granddaughter, Kayla Marie Butler, born in Aug. of 1990; a grandson, Jaxon Kenneth Overly, born Dec. 20. 2005; and another granddaughter, Samantha Rae Pocratsky, born on June 29, 2006. We are looking forward to the birth of another granddaughter in November!
After David and I married, I went to work in a day care and ended up taking over the business. I had the day care in my home since June 1991. In 2005, I turned in my day care license. I still take care of kids though, just not as many. Taking care of children is so rewarding, but it also ga...Expand for more
ve me the opportunity to be home, taking care of all our animals, and now my grandchildren.
Speaking of animals, we have two dogs ~ Max and Rascal, and six cats ~ TC, Sadie, Cleo, Daisy, Smudge, and their mother, Naula; and recently took in two more. One, whose name is Fluffy, and one we call Roofy (long story).
Today my life is full and happy. I spend alot of my free time reading, watching tv, and I love photography and to crochet. I also do flower arranging. I do silk flower arrangements for my church's alter nearly every Sunday. What people would have paid for real flowers, they now give the money to support our free health clinic, the Wesley Health Center in Connellsville. Recently, I was asked to do the flowers for a wedding in our church. I even made the bridal bouquet and the maid of honor's bouquet. That was fun.
I love to go to the movies with my sister and cousin, and once a month I go out to dinner with "the MP Girls" Sherry Anderson, Jo Sleva Hoisington, Patty DiMichele Mandri, and Mary Beth Melega Martin. We also get season tickets to all the MP football games.
I love the Steelers and the Penquins! (Wish I could afford those season tickets!!) 2007-2008 was quite an exciting season for both teams!! Hope this up'n'coming season brings "home the gold" for both teams!!
