Karen's Story

Life is an everlasting rollercoaster! It was in high school and has never changed to this day! I did get to UMBC and completed what I wanted there. But the job of my dreams was not the every day "go teach then go home and grade papers"! Oh no! LOL I ended up as a Substitue Teacher! Then moved on to Long Term Teaching and Home/Hospital teaching! All Secondary Ed! All AA County! I touched a bunch of kids' lives and feel like I gave back everything and more that our teachers gave to us at AHS! I got married, had 2 children, built a home... then had to literally escape from a domestic violence situation. But we survived and got over the pain quickly. While I was teaching and raising the family alone, I also found time to Freelance Write! The topics of articles were many and varied, but the interviews were the most interesting! I met Burt Ward, from the old Batman TV series, and helped him to promote a preschool character education program! I also met Bob Bejan, one of the producers of the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles Rock Band! That interview was in NYC and I was able to meet the turtles as well!! While I looked for the zippers (to their turtle outfits), Raphael kept laughing at me and said, "You just don't get it do you? We're real! Hello??" It was a blast! Their songs were also of a character education genre... teaching young teens and teens the power of being an Individual Thinker (No Drugs). Another fascinating group of men I met were *NSYNC. I had interviews with clients of their companies! I even learned to "do" Justin's Beatbox... much to his dismay! LOL We laughed over that one a lot!! From there, I studied to be a screenwriter and was managed by Wordsworth Communications in E. Stroudsburg, PA. It was a good relations...Expand for more
hip, optioned a few movies, but never sold any. I co-wrote some episodes for THE YOUNG RIDERS tv series with Kathi L. Holmes (also in our class) and their producers were interested in our work. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled that next season. I also had producers of the old MIAMI VICE series interested in my work. My agent and I submitted several episodes... and they even took one, but I got no pay for it. She was upset but I was just tickled to see my work on the screen!! Of all the male writers on the staff, it took a woman from Baltimore to have Sonny forget who he was and then almost kill Rico!If you ever catch it in reruns, it was called "Mirror Image". So I ended up being a writer, as we all knew I would someday. I have 6 movies out on the circuit! But lately, I've met a man who has become my partner in writing a fantasy novel. Well, actually, when we started we thought it would be A novel. NOW, it is a series of 4... and 1 on the way! The adventures are about a Royal Family and the Wolves that protect them! Included are Kings and Queens, Dragons and Wizards, Gnomes and Magic of all brands!! I can barely wait to turn them into pieces for the Silver Screen!! Neither can he!! See why I said Life is a Rollercoaster? My children are grown now. They still live with me! They are in college and both working full time career jobs. I've retired from the school board and enjoy my writing full time! Lots of time goes into writing and editing... I never had a clue! I'm not saying that we will be the new J. K. Rowlings or even C. S. Lewis! But you know, once you hop on this rollercoaster... You Just Never Know!!! Have a Great Day Everyone!! Be Happy!! Or as my French Major Self would say, "Soyez toujours heureux!!" Ciao!!
