Karen's Story
Although I have a Msc.Biology from McGill I had worked as an attendant on a school bus for special needs children (physically and or mentally handicapped). I kept the children safe (seatbelts) and behaved, and properly secured any wheelchairs or restraints. Sometimes it was quite a challenge!! I have one daughter (born Apr.2,1993), who is very intelligent and pretty. She has lived most of her life in Nebraska. We moved to Omaha, NE in Feb.'95 because my husband got a good job here. We have had a variety of pets over the years. Cat or cats being a constant. Occasionally my daughter will keep crickets or some other insect or a spider as a pet in the garage. My daughter and I talk about all the animals we would like to have as pet sometime...but probably never will. I currently do not work because of fibromyalgia, and other problems. All my symptoms, and my medications, make it not possible for me to work.
On May 16, 2011, my father, Bill Heshka, passed away, which has been, and still is, very difficult for me to deal with. My mother lives 1000 miles away but ...Expand for more
we are VERY close emotionally. I still harbour the faintest last hope that we might return to live in Canada again some day...I'm not holding my breath! (updated Sept. 26, 2011)
I hope that old friends remember me as friendly, kind, and always willing to help with any problem they had. I would like to think that I had always been a good listener for those who needed to vent or a shoulder to cry on. I have always tried to get along with everyone, even those that were less than kind to me. On occasion, however, my nasty temper has gotten the better of me, much to my chagrin. Hopefully not many people remember that!
UPDATE (July 2015) Due to health problems (ex. fibromyalgia, osteo- arthritis in shoulder, etc.) I am no longer gainfully employed. We have 4 wonderful rats (they are sooo lovable).
UPDATE (May 2021) Our beloved rats have long passed on. They will aways be remembered with love. We have one cat remaining. My daughter now has a blue tongued skink, a corn snake, and a dwarf african frog. Maybe we should charge admission to show them like a zoo exhibit!
